nordin dk 0 Posted August 1, 2002 Do you show any form of OCB? Do you turn the key 3 times in the lock? Do you turn the light on/off several times before going to bed? Do you vacuum or clean your house every day? Do you feel an urge to do somehing seemingly absurd or neurotic every day? I'm interested in hearing about this... More in general: Do you display any signs of having a mental illness? Do you worship objects or idols that in fact have no value or desirable personality traits? Do you speak to animals when they obviously do not understand what you are saying? etc. etc.

nordin dk 0 Posted August 1, 2002 Why should it be closed? It's a very normal thread, and it has an interesting topic, at least I think it does. I figured out about the sig by now... It's taken care of.

Guest Posted August 1, 2002 Hmm.. I am thinking. If we let the "What are you afraid of" thread be open, then I see no reason why this one should be closed. On the other hand are nordin's motives very clear. I'll leave it for now
nordin dk 0 Posted August 1, 2002 I don't talk animals, cos I don't have any, but I have to close every drawer and cupboard in the house before I can sleep. I sometimes fear schizophrenia, not for the same reason, but because it runs in the family, and sometimes it feels like I'm out of contact with the world, I seem to hover above my own consciousness if that makes any sense. Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted August 1, 2002 I use to be carzy abou things. I was so pariniod about germs that is was not even funny. I did't like to step on things, washed my hands till they where raw, and I use to like to have everything even, or have certain numbers. I also use to think maybe I am not saved, but I am all over that now.

Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted August 1, 2002 Well I am glad I am over those now, but I have very few "problems" now, just like a normal person now. We all ahve problems, just some have them to a greater extend, i.e. the mods have me. As for me getting a girlefriend, she would have to be drunk and high before she would go with me, or I would have to be rich. Maybe I could marry a really reall rich old lady, who is like 90, with my lcuk she would live to be 200.

hovmand 0 Posted August 1, 2002 I have OCD, Obsessive compulsive disorder or at least i think i have. I have most of the same symtomes, though i dont worry about germs(actually less than most people ) If i acidently brush my hand against something i have to do it again and again, or if i walk down the street and step on a rock i have to step on it again and it has to be in the same spot on my shoe, i get alot of strange looks from other people. I count when i do this, it has to be 4 times and then it goes away, for some reason odd numbers are bad. I also do the checking part, check if the door is locked, fridge closed, lights off and a hell of alot of other things. I used to call it "handiflip" (dont know how i came up with it) and couldnt ignore it, i thought something bad might happen to me or my family, but recently i found out what it was and now i can ignore some of my "flips". Im thinking about getting some treatment, but im afraid it will go on my permanent record or something, and im joining the army so im afraid they might turn me down because of it  Edit: Oh and good to have you back Nordin
Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted August 1, 2002 My advice to ya Hovmand is to resiste the "urge". Try to get into the habit of not doing these things, I would still check the doors though. You make your own mind up about help, but for me I got over it through time and talking to my mom. Try talking to family members, I was as bad or most likely worse than you not to long ago. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted August 1, 2002 I was worried that I had OCD, so I took a self test for it, and it turns out I am OC. I was shocked, I couldnt believe it- I re-took the test 10 times just to make sure...
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted August 1, 2002 hovmand, it doesn't sound so bad that you'd need treatment, IMO. I saw a TVshow about it, with this lady who had to put the phone up and down like 100 times before she could make a call, or this woman who NEVER threw anything away (her house was filled with 20 years of crap). What you have there are "oddities" and since you're aware of it, it couln't hurt. Most people contain a small amount of behaviour disorders, like paranoia, avoidance and OCD. It's not really a problem unless it takes control over your life or someone gets hurt.

She is an extremly nice person, but very messy. She has packages of Sloopy Joe mix that looks like they are from the 80's, it says copyrite 1975, I do not know how often they update it. She has a bag full of packets of ketchup and stuff like that in an 1 of her 2 iceboxes. There is probably some meat that is so old it aint even funny. If I can get a picture of it I will show yall, I think yall will enjoy it.
hovmand 0 Posted August 1, 2002 Lol @ Tex Thanks for the advice guys, i have started treating myself for it actually, but some "rituals" are still so locked in my brain that it is nearly impossible to resist, yes it sounds weird, its not like im gonna die from it or anything (you never know)
Paratrooper 0 Posted August 1, 2002 I always thought you were all mad!
nordin dk 0 Posted August 2, 2002 Madness is as madness does, I always say, even if it makes no sense what so ever. Anyway: I don't know about this, but could these small OCB rituals somehow be linked with what they call Neuro Linguistic Programming, where your brain creates automotoric responses to fit certain actions or emotions. Example: When you look for a pair of scissors, you make cuting movements with your hand. (I do that) Example: In my buisness (classical music), it is very very common when speaking of another musician, to make movements corresponding to the movements said colleague would do when playing his/her instrument. "Mary? Oh she plays the violin" (simulates violin playing) "Do you know Jack? He plays the flute" (holds hands like a fluteplayer) Weird, but somehow it helps the brain remember and store information. But what is the brain then trying to do, when a woman has to lift the phone off the hook 100 times before calling? Maybe there is some sort of severed synapse in the sequence: Must Call Mum -> Use Phone -> Lift Reciever -> Dial Number -> Wait for Connection -> Speak To use OFP language, a trigger is not activated somewhere... Aaron Kane 0 Posted August 2, 2002 I definently have OCD. Yesterday... *sob*... I had French vanilla pudding... FOR BREAKFAST!!! It wasnt stirred well, so I kept stirring and stirring. So I guess that makes me both obsessed with stirring, and compulsive about the stirring process. Oh the humanity!
Aaron Kane 0 Posted August 2, 2002 BTW, I strongly suggest you all go out and get your self hooked up to an EEG. I think thats what its called anyway... This guy could tell ALOT of stuff about me just by looking at a brainwave chart. He could tell if I had any virus' in my system when I was younger, he could tell I had symptoms of depression, and alot of other stuff. Get yours done today!!!
