Windows 8.1 Preview, using AMD supplied 8.1 Preview Drivers, breaks ArmaIII Beta

Recommended Posts

Of my entire game library, ArmaIII has found it's way to being the only game that has taken issue with Win8.1 preview, lol :plain:

Launching the game through steam results in nothing at all happening, I don't even get to see the loading splash element.

Launching through the ArmaIII.exe directly gets me this: http://imgur.com/2a5XcKw

This happens in both Dev branch and regular.

Now granted 8.1 is preview material and in no way supported by the developers of Arma - but the ONLY game that doesn't work? really? Must be an easy fix...

thats a direct x error, you need to get the correct direct x update.

its probably part of the ones that everyone assumes is standard

quick google search suggests its actually a file thats meant to come as part of windows, so if its not part of the OS, they need to change whatevers calling that .dll

So did anyone figure out a fix for this issue? I'm thinking about installing Windows 8.1, but if ARMA 3 won't start then it's a no go for me.

thanks,

Chappie

its not a BIS problem, MS has removed that .dll from the windows install

its why other games don't work with win 8, as MS put it, its the price of "progress"

they clearly state they do not actively support win 8

requirements: Windows Vista SP2/Windows 7 SP1 (Apple OS not supported)

and if they have no win8 development PC's they won't see this issue.

the fix itself is easy, just find that .dll in another OS instal, and copy it to the ARMA3.exe location on the win8 instal.

in win8 has changed the calls for that .dll your out of luck and need to make a feedback tracker report to see if they can recode the game to use another .dll

Works without any issues. I did a clean install and not an upgrade.

The only tools which are not working proper for me, are:

- GPUTweak v2.4.1.0

- HWInfo v4.21 Build1963

:)

Just completed a full reinstall of Win 8.1 (since I -had- done an update). No luck, same error - and a giant waste of time lol.

Do you use AMD or Nvidia?

try running all the redistrubuites that normally come with a game

you probably need to get the vcredist_x86.exe, and directx version off the source websites

I use the GeForce v326.01 (2x GTX680-SOC-2GB in 2-Way-SLI), but the previous ones didn't give me any issues either.

Maybe have a look into my blog and get the "VC Redist Installer 1.5.6"-Package and "McRipSystemFiles v2.0.2013.06.30"-Package and maybe the "Disable Core Parking on Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1"-Package from there (made by a mate -> McRip):

Click

PS: ... the packages are all up2date, even if they are under Year 2011 / 2012, as I only edit the content, when my mate releases a new version ... his blog / website uses IP-Filter's to prevent DDoS-Attacks, but I don't ...
