Server for Canadians and Europeans?

Recommended Posts

Were would i find a cheap but reliable server host with good ping for Alberta, Canada and the United Kingdom? I haven't had much luck searching for a host. If you do have a Host that would work, could you tell me the ping for both areas?

Try Vilayer

Yeah i bitched about em elsewhere but that was a misunderstanding.

I'm in the UK, server is hosted in France, 30 slots for £16 and tbh works well enough for the price

Server can be hosted in europe or Canada

Scroll down to see hosted places.

I use NFOServers ... I use the Chicago location and I ping it at 28ms from Toronto and a few of my buddies posted out in wainwright ping it at mid 40's. Decent, fast and they are quick to troubleshoot hardware/software issues.

I am in Alberta and have freinds who play Arma 3 with me in the UK. I need a location that would allow the best ping for both of us.

We use Hetzner (Germany) for our group which is primarily European and NA players. Around 100 ping for NA players and 40-60 ping for European players.

Hetzner seems quit expensive compared to other companies though.

I don't know what companies you are comparing Hetzner too, but they are very good pricing wise. E3-1245 is €69 a month! Nothing "expensive" about that...

for sure.. our server is $69 euros a month for i7-2600 with 32GB of RAM and a stupid amount of drive space. Also this is not a 'slot server' or VPS - the whole machine is yours with full RDP access. As an example we run 4 x Arma servers (including one MSO) and a bunch of BF2/Minecraft/other servers all on the same box.

Anything cheaper that I've seen is a VPS which is fine but not the same.

Anybody with a new york location

That's as "fair" ping wise as you'll get for both locations (it's kinda middle for both).

Found out this host: https://www.hfbservers.com/games/arma3 is used by the Ahoyworld US servers and its a lot cheaper for more slots and seems like there servers run amazingly.

The EU ones use HETZNER.

As someone who is somewhat new to server hosting, anything I need to know? Also what are your experiences with HFB servers?

no experience personally with HFB.. just Alpha Networks (our old host) and Hetzner

I assume you'll be using Windows? Make sure you know a bit about server admin and read up before making major changes. Enable the firewall on the server and configure it properly. Change the default RDP listen port to something other than 3389 (assuming that's what you will use for remote access).

Are you running multiple servers? If so you might want to look at some management software like TCAdmin but that will cost you an additional $15/month. Make sure you run different Arma servers on their own core.

For Arma get the best CPU you can - drive space doesn't matter as much and neither does RAM (as long as you have at least 8GB). SSDs are nice but if they are giving you 6gbps SATA drives then you should be OK without SSD.

100mbit is more than enough for connection speed unless you plan on running 64-player MSO servers :)
