Frustration With Arma 2 Patches

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I received Arma 2, the core game, in the mail yesterday and immediately installed it and tried going on multiplayer. The first thing I noticed was that to the left of every server, there was a red "x". Also, whenever I clicked on a server to join it, I would be met by a message reading "Bad version, server rejected connection". I have not downloaded any mods or addons, so I thought that maybe I simply wasn't able to join because I don't have the latest version. I went on the official Arma 2 website and found the 1.11 patch and downloaded it. This is where it gets confusing (at least to me). That little bar appeared on the bottom of my screen that displayed the item that I was downloading and how much time it had left. Once that was done, I clicked on the folder, and it pulled up some program for burning discs. I've never installed a patch, so I don't know if burning should be involved in this process or what I should do now. I am still having the same difficulties in multiplayer. Thank you so much for taking your time to help a new gamer.

Most if not all servers today are running CO (A2 + OA). Check the programs/apps which are linked to open/extract "zip" files and maybe revert these to default Windows settings. You can also download + use a pack tool like 7z - http://7-zip.org/. After you un-packed/extracted the zip files - click on "Arma...Update_....exe". :)

I'm horrible with technology, so if somebody could give me a step by step lesson on what I should do in terms I can understand, I would be very thankful.

1 - download and install 7zip (link above)

2 - go to where you downloaded the arma patch - it's probably a zip file or rar file

3 - right-click on that file, 7zip, extract files here

4 - one of the files it extracts should be an .exe file you can just double-click to start the installation.

Also if you only have Arma 2 and not Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead you will not be able to play on most servers, as they will be running Combined Operations (which is just Arma 2 plus Arma 2 OA). I'd recommend buying OA as well if that is the case.
