Save funtion for MP

Recommended Posts

Post just to get people talking. Shift\- num and then type SAVEGAME one word. This does save a file called "SAVE.FPS" in

C:\Programfiles\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\Users\Bucko\Saved\mpmission

And then a folder for each island.. Been trying to get these saved files to work like SP by changing name to " continue.fps. “Works for SP but not MP. Would be neat to save MP and be able to restart.

Ok so I spelled function wrong. But thought I’d get some kind of response. Don't you realize that if we could save a MP game we could have Join in progress. (Oh yeah that dead horse again)

Update: after saving the file with the above method. Rename the file "safe.fps" to "continue.fps" and place in the dir /save/mission/ and the same island folder as the mission. I take the same mission and place it in the single player directory. Start the mission in SP, then I use the continue option.

What happens then is that the game starts in the same  (last) screen as in muli-player but de-briefing pops up and  and game over.  Needs to be repacked in to multi  PBO.

Here is my problem that I need to solve to make this work. That SAVE.FPS file is too large. The encryption (source code) is too large for the limited decompiler that we have for decompiling our missions and bombs out.  I think if we could decompile the SAVE.FPS files replace the MISSION.SQM in the orignal MP we should be able to restart the game where we left off. It will take an admin todo this but not really all that much work.

I am sorry to interrupt, but what you are trying to do cannot work. Information that is relevant to MP is not stored in savegame file (like network object ID numbers, ownership information). The best you can achive this way is to continue game you started in MP as singleplayer.

If join in progress would be this easy, we would implement it.

I really don't see any draw back to this. Yes each time you started would be like it was an new mission starting out but hey there would be fewer bad guys and you'd be further down the road. Or you could just keep adding another town and another mission to the end of it. Was thinking a diff peep could do a little tweak each time and have a continues campaign. (wish we could level as bounce )

Samu your thinking is for the MASSes but this game is played by the FEW.

As far as I can see this method would have only a few drawbacks

1 - everyone would have to reselect their unit.

2 - Maybe - just maybe - some weapons/ammo/damage stuff would be reset.

I think you mentioned #1 suma - which is a "necessary evil" i think we'll cope with if we have to. After all the price is higher than the cost there smile.gif

If I just missed something, please tell me...

I used to have a great coop, your black op team went from a small camp to the Malden airport by jeep, where one of you get into A10 and fly over the island in NW and destroy Shilkas. After the A10 comes the rest of the team in Black Hawk, getting out and clean sweeping or something like that. I've lost the mission due to a reinstallation of Windows the fall of 2001. That mission had a MP Save function.

easy, you play it on a Friday or Sat night when time isn't such a factor.... We start around 9:3-pm EST and sometimes don't end till 2-3am. I'm sure you could complete any mission w/in those times.

Oh yeah, I'm married and have a child, there for I don't have a life tounge.gif
