Kommiekat 12 Posted May 8, 2013 Hi, my BIS main folders are on my D drive which is HDD. My main OS is on SSD which is completely full. I need a temporary fix until I upgrade the SSD, so in the meantime, I'd like to move the Arma2 and Arma3 profile folders which are in the "My Documents" to either D or C drive. I have lots of pbo files in them for editing, therefore, the 60GB SSD is completely full now, with 50 GB going to the Win7 OS and updates that come rolling along. Does anybody know the answer or perhaps have an even better solution until I make a physical SSD upgrade? Thanks! KK
Snake Man 407 Posted May 8, 2013 I actually just migrated my arma2/arma3 profiles directories from the game root dirs into a brand new just pure "armap" directory which now stands in my Armed Assault, ArmA 2 and ArmA 3 profiles directory. I did it just for convenience, its easy to backup and its separate from the game directory if a day comes that I have to reinstall them, not likely but still its nice to have profiles separate. This actually started because of the steam crap in ArmA 3, the hell I wont keep my addons/users dir in those spaces in directory name ugly steamapps dirs. Not exactly sure what answer do you seek, I mean naturally you should use -profiles= parameter to set where the profiles dir is located. My SSD starts to get quite full too, when ArmA 3 beta/final comes (ie the other content) then I'm surely running out of space and face the same issue as you (now I migrated just different dir inside the SSD). I do have Play With Six which installs few addons that I use with it, into another drive (not SSD), maybe I'll have to move some of my addons there when I ran out of SSD space. So you are not using any -profiles= parameter now as you store your stuff in the horrific My Documents (brrr) location, so the answer is, just start using profiles dir/parameter like everyone I know since the release of Armed Assault. Kommiekat 12 Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks for your reply. I backed up my "Arma2 Other Profile" folder from "My Documents" and drag/drop them into my D drive, Started Arma2, opened the Editor and made a TEST save on a mission map. Closed everything and went back to "My Documents" and saw that the Arma applications will make a NEW "Arma2 Other Profile" folder....so that was fruitless..................BUT................ I found that I had almost 12 GB of saved games in the SAVE folder for MP/SP and Campagns. So, I went back in there and threw out what I didn't need, getting back 11 GB on the SSD. I'll upgrade the SSD later anyways, but to answer my own question........ NO you cannot move them to another location because as far as I can see, Arma application will not find the new directory, it just makes a new one in the My Documents..... Unless, you found the answer with "So you are not using any -profiles= parameter now as you store your stuff in the horrific My Documents (brrr) location, so the answer is, just start using profiles dir/parameter like everyone I know since the release of Armed Assault." How do I do that? Maybe I can see that with a Launcher...but I don't know where, when you start the game up, I can find the "button" to click to set the new parameter. Could you help me on that? Kommiekat 12 Posted May 8, 2013 Ah, thank you so much! What do you think of this one? Do you think it will work from your experience? "D:\arma2\Arma2.exe" -profiles=E:\arma2\Profiles Moving profiles from C (OS) to E (just files like music/pics) but exe is on D (game itself)
Snake Man 407 Posted May 8, 2013 Sure. That would create for you: e:\arma2\Profiles\Users\<YOURWINDOWSNAME>\Missions <- for your single player missions e:\arma2\Profiles\Users\<YOURWINDOWSNAME>\MPMissions <- for your multi player missions e:\arma2\Profiles\MPMissionsCache <- missions saved when you join someones server e:\arma2\Profiles\arma2.RPT <- your RPT log file So just move your existing Users dir there and you can load all the missions you did while in My Documents default dir. Kommiekat 12 Posted May 8, 2013 Thank you so much. I have just one last question. I hope you don't mind. I like to use a Launcher, because I need different MOD set ups for different missions I make and play. I use Arma ll Launcher-v14.1.0 Here is the Parameter: ""-mod=D:\Bohemia Interactive;Expansion;ca;Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-name=" -nosplash -noPause -world=empty -showScriptErrors -cpuCount=4 So where, in this would I place -profiles=E:\arma2\Profiles I really hate using short cuts because it's always cut and paste the mod load I want or making 50 shortcuts, one for each mission....unless you guys are doing something nifty and can share it? Snake Man 407 Posted May 8, 2013 You can put the profiles parameter anywhere, there is no order. One shortcut for each mission, I hope you mean addon/mod. There is no reason to make mission specific but I assume you meant mod. Yes I have tons of shortcuts, each for different addons/mods I use. Its good to combine those addons you use for certain missions etc, for example I have collected all terrains that don't require addons into one mod dir.
