Benze 0 Posted July 20, 2002 Snopes on Jane Fonda If you haven't already read the story about the horrible Jane Fonda. She apoligizes and claims how how her picture on an aircraft carrier "looking like she was shooting planes" was "the most horrible thing" she had ever did. Even worse, she was put on a Barbera Walter's "100 great women." I'm not trying to start a debate, but this shows the effect propaganda has, and how anyone can do it. You may have heard of the Fonda story already, but for those who haven't, it is truly a great story of media betrayal and the Vietnam war.
Warin 0 Posted July 20, 2002 Yeap..heard about this years ago. In fact, the movie 'Hanoi Hilton' even had a Fonda-esque character (female movie star that is a pawn od the propoganda machine) I wont quite say it's treason, but she was used, and that shows her anject stupidity of world affairs, at least at the time. Benze, I know you werent trying to start a debate..but hey...you have to know that this will Personally, if she's sorry, she can make a big fat donation to a Vietnam Vets charity of choice...and perhaps help some of the guys she screwed over. Tex -USMC- 0 Posted July 20, 2002 I really dont care. The NVs took advantage of her anti-war position and manipulated it to look like Americas own representatives were anti-American. Whatever. Its all politics, and therefore meaningless in the physical sense
Lazarus_Long 0 Posted July 20, 2002 Janes actions severely crossed the line of free speech. It was treason plain and simple. When you strongly object to your governments actions, you deal with it from within, you don't go working for your enemy unless you don't plan to come back. It's too late to have her shot for treason but she should at the very least have her citizenship stripped and be forced into exile. Loyalty to your people comes before any disagreements with your government. Jane Fonda IS a traitor, and she should NEVER be forgiven for what she did. Warin 0 Posted July 20, 2002 That's a little harsh, Laz. Thing is, I dont think there are many of us here who were alive then... and so we cant truly relate to the climate that they had to deal with. In some ways, I can understand her position. I mean thousands of US soldiers were coming home in caskets... and I dont think anyone will deny that the Vietnam War was not anywhere near what you could describe as a clear cut good vs evil conflict. So she stood up and told people what she thought. And if she was deluded by the North Vietnamese..well..she's stupid...but not a traitor. But that's just my opinion. Lazarus_Long 0 Posted July 20, 2002 The Vietnam War, was a shameful chapter of U.S. history, even I can agree with that. Jane could have used her public influence to promote the anti-war movement in the United States, but that's not what she did. She picked a side, and chose to betray her own country. She was not stupid, she was in her mid 30's at the time and knew exactly what she was doing. Screw her! She's a scum sucking traitor who has yet to pay any consequences for her actions. BTW a few of those caskets you mentioned Warin, were a direct result of Jane Fondas treason. She never cared about dead americans, they were all baby killers to her. IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted July 20, 2002 Its really none of my business but ive browsed the Military.com forums a few times ,including the 'Vietnam War' section and i can tell you that she isnt a loved and respected actress LOL i wouldnt have any sypathy for her at all if she did get convicted of treason (not that it would happen). Whatever. TX[uSMC] -Its all politics, and therefore meaningless in the physical sense not so meaningless if you were a grunt during that period, or one of the guys that got tortured either thanks in part to her, or at least were accused of 'exaggerating' by her, i know id be V. Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted July 21, 2002 What Jane did is terriable, but we should forgive her. I heared she converted to Christianity, but I could be wrong, I hope I am not. She should be healed as a tartor and not let back in the country, but we still should forgive her, but punish her in that way.
Guest Posted July 21, 2002 Bah. It was the 60's. Get over it. Even the Nixon administration admitted that the war was a 'mistake'. If you can forgive them for killing hundreds of thousands Vietnamese and tens of thousands Americans for something that was a 'mistake' then you should be able to forgive her for an anti-war thing that perhaps went a little too far. Guest Posted July 21, 2002 Bah. You obviously know nothing of what treason is. What she did is nothing. Here is a real traitor who deserves to be shot like a dog: Sven Göran "Svennis" Eriksson, Swede who decided to coach the English football team in the world cup. That's real treason! ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 21, 2002 still sour after World Cup? geeze..get over it Denoir... ahh....joy of living in a country that can't do a jack shit in soccer... EDIT: He made a mistake... forgive him, Denoir

USSoldier11B 0 Posted July 23, 2002 *breathes deeply* Under the defenitions of SAEDA (Subversion and Espionage Directed Against the U.S. Army) AR 381-12, the actions taken by Jane Fonda in 1972 are clearly a HUMINT violation. She should be ultimately found guilty of subversion and treason. Like our friend Johnny Walker she should be tried, convicted, and afforded the harshest punishment allowed by law. As an American citizen she has the right to a fair trial and due process by law. Given the fairness of the system, she should be tried, and made to own up to the crimes that she most likely commited.[/objective] Give me a few hours, a bottle of iodine, and a rusty potato peeler and I will set things straight.
