Adding scopes to a character

Hi

I have been tearing my hair out over the past hour trying to figure this out and couldn't find a post about this so... here it goes

I'm trying to add a scope to my character's inventory and have him attached to his weapon. (Yes the weapon should be compatible with the scope) I'm trying to attach an RCO scope to this weapon and I have put this in his init field after I have added the weapon:

this addweapon "optic_Hamr";

No luck, please help
