Would lowering video settings help with multiplayer (pings)?

Recommended Posts

Another dumb question, no doubt, but do the video settings I use affect multiplayer at all, specifically the 'ping' time? I've left them at the default, which is ultra high (given that I got a new computer recently). Will that have any effect at all when it comes to being able to play multiplayer?

I could always lower the video settings, if I'd have more multiplayer options that way (again, regarding connection speed). The game runs quite well, so I wouldn't change things, otherwise.

Thanks.

Ping time has nothing to do with your video settings. Ping are the time in miliseconds it takes for

data to travel to the server you play on and return again to your pc. The longer the distance tho higher the ping.

Connect to the servers with the lowest ping, or keep it under 100-150.

When I join a server first thing I look at is the pings of other players. If I see high pings in the 200+ range I don't even bother to join. The reason is, the server has to slow down it's updates to the lower pings so everyone will get the data at the same time. This drastically effects fps and is one of the reasons for people complaining about how low it is.

Thanks for the replies. I figured that was probably the case, but I've been having trouble finding Coop games with a green ping. And I'd been invited to play on a server which worked for awhile - with a red bar pretty much all the time - but then I couldn't get reconnected to it. So I'm grasping at straws, I guess. :)

Is there a way to set the server to auto kick anyone with a ping of more then 200 for more then 10 seconds?

Battleye allows you to restrict high pings, but due to Alpha status we have no BE available.

Hi!

I have this kind multiplayer problem. My game runs under 20fps even all low settings at multiplayer. Singleplayer tutorial and events runs over 60fps all maxed to ultra settings. Resolution what i am using is 1980x1080.

Is it somekind of bug?

My computer specs are

So please tell me what to change or do that my game would run little bit smoother.

And i bought Digital Deluxe Edition from Steam.

Latency is alright all the time.

Thank You!

I think you are derailing the topic?! ;-)

It depends on what Mission is running on MP. AI / Scripts do affect your FPS pretty much. Plus, you have other Players on the Server aswell! ;-)

it wont help :p

It's funny, but I've discovered I can't trust that 'ping' number Arma III shows me. I had no problem playing a coop game last Friday even though the ping consistently showed as 2500. Once I got in the game, though, it seemed to be more like 160.

If that's regularly the case, I should have a lot more multiplayer games I can join than I thought.
