EyeOfMedusa 1 Posted March 14, 2013 Title says it all. I can nearly max the game with 60 FPS on a Phenom xII 955 at 3.2 ghz stock / GTX 560 ti (2 GB vram). Yet I can't run it above 20 frames on multi-player (The GPU is at 20% usage). So obviously something is clearly wrong with the MP at the moment. Is this something that can be fixed? Is it the servers themselves that are the problem?

Razorman 10 Posted March 14, 2013 Servers dictate your game settings, you have no control over the way it is set up, if your rig is weak or the server is slow u will lag.

Okay so pretty much every server is just weak at the moment? On no server I've played on has it been over 25% usage. This has nothing to do with Bohemia then, meaning it's not going to be fixed by a patch sooner or later?
Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted March 14, 2013 Okay so pretty much every server is just weak at the moment? Either that or poor multicore performance in A3A with AI/physx, but probably both, since I've seen dedicated 2600K/3770Ks at 4.5 GHz dragged to their knees with Evolution/other missions. If server FPS drops to, say, 15-20 - your (client) FPS will drop as well.

And that shouldn't be the case. People argue that it wouldn't be fair if the server didn't determine things like view distance and grass level. Well, it will never be fair because the people who can't handle the max view distance will lag, meaning they won't be able to compete with those who can run the game maxed. Game settings like that should ONLY be determined by the client.

So pretty much all in all my question is, will this be fixed eventually? If they fix the multi-core stuff with the CPU it might make a difference but it runs fine on SP. They just need to fix the GPU utilization somehow. I don't really mind at the moment, I just hope that for the future I will be able to play at at least 40-50 FPS, because I rightly should be able to run it at that in my opinion. I'm just hoping that this is actually fixable on BI's side with a patch or two. I still do enjoy the game however, I just find that shooting at close range is often hard at 15-20 frames. It's not about grass. If server CPU can't cope with AI & physics simulation, it will lower clients' FPS! God knows why that is the case - always been so. ---------- Post added at 00:26 ---------- Previous post was at 00:24 ---------- So pretty much all in all my question is, will this be fixed eventually? We survived ArmA II with this... but here we have an additional layer of simulation - physics. No idea how the servers will run Altis with all these vehicle assets & AI, both of which have a PhysX component that needs to be calculated now, compared to ArmA II. They probably won't. EyeOfMedusa 1 Posted March 15, 2013 Which showcase's are you running? Because some lag than others. I ran the first one. Runs pretty easily for me nearly maxed. So there's no actual problem with the game optimization itself, at least in that area.
filamod 3 Posted March 15, 2013 Yes I've notice that too. When I make MP mission with many AI the performance is very glitchy and almost impossible to play. I hope they'll fix it.

For the servers that allow you to change the view distance, the FPS increases alot. Most servers have view distance turned up on high.
