Hostage Rescue: Extreme Edition

April 18th, 2013 - Update #19: Integrated my "Bullet-Wind Interaction System" (Wind affects bullet path). Reverted to old spawn system (players will no longer join into a round when they connect).

I have developed a hostage rescue mission entirely from scratch. It works as a TDM/Roleplay consisting of 3 teams; Cops, Terrorists, and Hostages. The cops start off at their base and can take either offroad trucks, or an unarmed littlebird to get to the AO.

The game area takes place at the airport. (EDIT: Scenario system implemented - Multiple scenarios are possible!)

This mission is very addicting - had a full server all day :) - and it has a nice sense of competition, pvp, roleplay, and strategy.

The cops have to rescue the hostages by either killing all the terrorists, or by getting all the surviving hostages to the extraction zone.

The terrorists have to keep the hostages under control and win by killing all the cops.

The hostages have to survive.

Requires a minimum of 1 player on each team for the round to begin.

-Shout feature

-Pointing system (used to show your team where you are looking)

-Intense PVP

-Organized

-Roleplay elements

-30 players

-HUD

-Vehicle respawn

-Good performance

-Color Correction

-Purgatory (Dead, or waiting players will be located on a separate island while waiting.)

-Respawn

-Suppression system (blurred if bullets hit near you)

-Loadout system

-JiP safe (can be run on a dedicated server with no issues)

-Police vehicle lights and siren (sirens toggle-able)

-Video Surveillance (police can tap into the compounds' cameras at the police spawn)

-Doors can be barricaded.

-Virtual Ammobox System/Loadout system

-Terrorists can hit the hostages if they need to enforce their power upon them

-Custom police truck skin

-Vehicle have horns (H Key)

-Scenario System (Game takes place in different locations, and time is randomized)

-Custom made terrorist skins that randomize each round

-Flashbangs (Chemlights act as flashbangs and will blind players)

-Jumping

-Bullet-Wind Interaction System (wind affects bullets)

-Completely coded from scratch by me (credits to Tophe for the vehicle respawn script and Tonic for the Virtual Ammobox System)

Yes, I have access to a server box, but I will also be releasing this mission to the public, and hopefully ArmAholic can advertise it :)

Thanks again to everyone who tested tonight! Added more features such as police lights and sirens, suppression, loadout saving, and made rounds restart a bit smoother.

The mission should be done some time tomorrow and will be released for everyone to play/host! :)

P.S. Another good thing about this mission is that you can easily setup the mission to have a different scenario from the editor :)

Everything should work fine if you keep everything in tact.

TODO List: Smooth out round restarts more, make uniforms "restart" each round, create video surveillance system.

Really need someone to host this 24/7 or I may have too!

Flashing lights and siren need to be toggle able and it should wait for players rather than restarting again and again without stopping.

Update - Made a melee system for terrorists via numpad 8. Sirens are now toggle-able via numpad 7. Bug fixes.

You should make the rescue location heli fly in and land then take off when the hostage and cops or just hostages get in. At the end of the round it should say something like "The hostage was rescued! Cops win!" and "The hostage was killed Terrorists win!" and when the terrorists are all dead it would less intrusively say "The terrorists are dead! Get the hostage to the heli!". When the cops kill the terrorist they should have to escort the former hostages to the helicopter which then flys away and fades out over the ocean to the next round.

You also Need to make the transitions between rounds more smooth/ less annoying.

Some concept ideas include cops being able to tie up a captured terrorist after they are disarmed and then tortured into giving intel to the cops.

You could experiment with bigger server sizes and different locations with different vehicles and weapons.

It's the game lobby, the game teleports you to the proper locations.

Each team requires at least 1 player for the round to begin, how do you expect to play a hostage rescue mission by yourself? -.-

uhm, we tried the mission with 3 person. each one selected 1 team of course. it is not starting in that way it should.

It's the game lobby, the game teleports you to the proper locations.

what do you mean by this?

Update 2 - Fixes an issue with players not being teleported back to spawn after each round if they are in a vehicle.

the presentation video is an epic fail. Not it has 360p quality, but presentation it self is a pain to watch. At least you could make something proper, so people actually get interested.

Hmmm... Running into an issue, it seems that isDedicated isn't working in ArmA3.

if(isServer || isDedicated) then 
{server sided stuff};

If I run this on a dedicated server, it doesn't run the serversided scripts.

Also looked at this http://www.kylania.com/ex/?p=26 and I don't see why this won't work on a dedicated server.

Update - Doors can now be barricaded to prevent hostages from leaving a room.

Hotfix - Fixed barricade rotations; added barrier breaking for hostages (30 sec delay)

You need to add an option to force switch teams randomly. But have it as an option that can be disabled.

Also the ammo box at purgatory causes you to crash Arma.

Update! Fixed the mission, it now works on dedicated server! Silly mistake made the server wait until the player existed - now it waits until the server, or the player exists.

You can host this worry-free now! :)

The ammo boxes seem to crash ArmA sometimes, just a bug with ArmA, not my mission.

You need something to tell new player that they get to play when the round is over as well. I've seen many who join but see nothing and know nothing about the game then log out quick.

IS there a way to notify server hosts when the mission is updated? I've seen tons of outdated servers. Mabey you could add such a feature in future updates?
