Pleace enhance Particle effects (smoke/fire)

Recommended Posts

Arma 3 is looking by far awesome!, there is only one thing always bothers me since arma 2 and OA, the particle effects of fire and smoke always look like just a lot of circles with alpha spinning around.

I think the particle count can be decreased, by using better textures for the effects and adding a shader to the particles ( like in the clouds) to distort the particles, its not so expensive for performance and makes them look less synthetic.

This is not performance expensive??

Try to place a vehicle under some destructible building in Editor, then blow up the car so the building will fall apart too.. watch your fps dive below 20.

If I was going to request anything on the particles it would be the option to lower the settings below "standard." Currently a couple smoke grenades in the TDNL team deathmatch mission that's floating around would cause my frames to halve.

However, I feel that the feedback is all feature oriented, and not enough stability/performance/mechanic issues. Ask yourself, what is more important?

they are expensive the way they are now, thats what I say, LOWERING the amount of particles, enhancing their texture( not necesary to increase resolution, just enhancing its look) AND adding a custom particle shader (to the really lower count particle effect) would increase the look and performance. I work with particle effects.. in other game. So really, its possible, and would increase realism by far.

+1

Particle effects (mainly fire and explosions) would definitely deserve some improvements...

Not sure what's achievable in actual iteration of RV engine though.
