pythagoras: a^2+b^2 = c^2

just multiplicate by 1.4 and roughly the number of diagonals is the distance ;)

example: your first building was 4 diagonals away (one line of the squares has 100m). now 4 diagonals * 100 * 1.4 -> 560

voila ^^

yes worked it out wrong slightly but that cause i was not stood on a grid line so I needed to add more distance.

you inspired me to make a video too. the civs in mine all stand around 1m from each other.

strange is that its so cpu / GPU intensive...

my frames come down from around 40 to 4 per second

maybe this is the point where the engine has to be optimised ^^ exploding peoples..

In the first video you could have reloaded a smoke instead of shooting off all HE rounds first. Just scroll your mousewheel until you get that action :)

Ai and physix, both need it at the same time. You can have lots of units on the map just standing and a high frame rate, but the second they start firing, the FPS drops severely. Perhaps Havok or other physics engine could have done a much better job with lower resources.
