Exeede rec specs but extreamly poor performance on arma 3 alpha

Recommended Posts

I'm sure a lot of people have dropped posts for this, but this is really frustrating.

MY computer.

AMD athlon 8120 3.1 ghz with a 15mb cache (8 cores)

8 gigs corsair ddr3 ram at 1600

Nvidia gtx 560 firmi with 2gigs ddr5 256bit ram

700 watt power box.

sata III 7200 rpm hd with a 64mb cache

ASUS m5a99xevo (new upgraded version as of october 2012)

upgraded gpu drivers as of yesterday

Now all in all I'm pretty sure that meets the recommended requirements, yet i get from 15 to 30 fps average.

The 25 to 30 parts i don't mind, this game seems quite smooth at those rates (much like crysis did), but the 15 to 20 rates, ie what i usualy am getting is allmost unplayable.

I real am at a loss, even when i drop all my settings to low (which is pretty much where i am at) there is only a 5 to 7 fps difference than on high. Now at such low frame rates, that 5 to 7 is everything so thus i set them down as much as i can stand (my view distance is at 700, objects the same, shadows at 80, aa is off and anstropic is at 2, hdr and post processing are at lowest and dynamic lights are on low.... and of course, vsync is off.

Something is wrong, im not sure what but it is.

The odd thing is i got the same bad performance on ARMA II, only about 20 to 30 fps as my average rather than 15 to 20 (though on arma 2 that was a lot worse of a drop given that the game had so much mouselag)

Ive tried setting my render rate and my resolution down and that does nothing, ive also tried overclocking my cpu to about 3.8 ghz and nothing.

Could it be that the 8120 Athlon cpu just has massive issues with the game.

The odd thing is my auto fan dosn't seem to be kicking in.

This was the same way with arma 2, i looked and found very little of my gpu was being used at all.

What the hell is wrong with my machine, and why is it only ARMA games that seem to be affected?

PS ive tried the -CpuCount=8 command and that didnt realy help as far as i could tell.

the game pretty much runs on one core :(, turn off your "helper" cores and over clock to 4.2ghz or above that should help. if you have never done an overclock I STRONGLY suggest you read up on it first as it can fry your chip if not done correctly

im pretty sure i said that in my first post, that i was running my view distances at 700

everything in my visual options is set to low save for textures as it makes no difference

infact none of the visual options makes anymore than 5 fps difference between max and low.

Read the threads about troubleshooting performance issues. There are loads of suggestions. Just of the top of my head, make sure you have latest (but not bets) graphics card drivers. Drop object distance to 1000, shadows down to 50, anything on high or ultra drop it down a level. Switch off AA.
