nodunit 397 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) HDR has come a long long way since it's inception in arma 2 and even the adjustments in OA, no longer are we to fear the shadows of daylight or the insides of a vehicle. That said however, it seems as though thermal imagining is sitll being effected by it. Thermal imaging when you first look at it is simply put, perfect, the background stands out, you can see it clearly. The clutter gives better situational awareness BUT it also clutters so you can't see targets as perfectly as you can when it 'greys out'. To demonstrate what I mean by this here are some examples. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee200/NodUnit/Arma%203%20and%20Bugs/thermal1_zpsa1250c28.jpg?t=1362730441 http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee200/NodUnit/Arma%203%20and%20Bugs/thermal2_zps9bb7a77e.jpg?t=1362730440 http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee200/NodUnit/Arma%203%20and%20Bugs/thermal3_zps7540e8a9.jpg?t=1362730438 And once more for a comparison..This image of thermal was taken immediately upon spawn, while the rendering was still fresh and everything pronounced. Which saddly quickly degraded to this When the thermals degrade itself it becomes more or less a "keep an eye out for the white" because that is a garunteed soldier or vehicle, you don't have to assess the terrain and guess wether or not it is a soldier in the distance or a hot bit of land. It really detracts from the greatness of this feature, disabling its use as navigation and greatly acquisition. PIP brings with it a great gameplay asset that no other game outside of dedicated sims has, however it also highlights a past flaw that could otherwise be ignored due to the large image. If PIP did not degrade on anything but TOD and weather (or even just TOD as it is now) and had the ability to zoom in steps akin to operation arrowhead (it is so much more responsive to tap zoom 2 times versus holding it, more realistic too) then it would offer a tremendous amount of gameplay from the box and even more in modding. dm 9 Posted March 8, 2013 Thats not actually HDR, but the autobrightness for TI. It does indeed need tweaking tho, raise an issue in the tracker?

Which tracker? https://dev-heaven.net/projects/a3-cit/issues or this one? http://feedback.arma3.com/my_view_page.php

nodunit 397 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Thanks, guess I need to pack up all of my bug finds on dev heaven and put them on there as well. Done http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=2899 I honestly don't expect any action will be taken towards this which would be a damn shame, here is a great chance for arma to prove yet another segment of combined arms and authenticity, whereas the best non sim dedicated games can do is have that one odd special level with forced FLIR. But at the moment the dang thing is just not helpful for navigation and is too easy as far as gunnery is concerned. Edited March 8, 2013 by NodUnit
