The 1985 Campaign

Recommended Posts

Ah, the campaign of OPF.  Oops, I meant "Ugh, the campaign...."

I'm just frustrated with the dependency on scripted events, and the lack of player control.  My (is this the case with most of you?) campaign game has turned into a do-everything-or-else workfest that is no fun whatsoever.  I much more enjoy playing single and created missions where I have dynamic control.

I do not mean this as a flame.  I just had an idea, though, wondering if it's possible to modify the campaign missions so that you are the "One" instead of a useless AI character?  Or is it possible to export the missions so that I can change them around (to be squad leader) and just play them as single-player missions in the correct order?  The latter, really, would be preferable.  (I am still interested in playing out the campaign, just on my own terms [lol].)

If anyone could be of any assistance, I would be really grateful.

You get to be squad leader halfway through the campaign. Later on you also get to be Gastovski. Hes's like that secret covert op dude in black. Most of his missions are solo and require stealth. Oh yeah, there's that tank dude hammer and the heli pilot too.

The squad leader missions are by far the most interesting. Unfortunately, there aren't too many of them.

I prefer the black ops missions and the missions where I'm not squad leader, because continually telling the AIs what to do so they don't get killed doing something idiotic is a pain.

As for playing the campaign missions as single missions, someone had them all up on their web site as editable missions in a big .zip file; check the fan sites and see if they're still available somewhere.

You start with a low rank and are promoted further in the campaign. Getting more possibilities for ordering other soldiers comes with your enhanced experience.

See no problem about that. That`s a soldier`s life, at the beginning you are always doing the s**t-work!!

Yes, you think you are in a squad, working with them like in a real team. Later your squad mates behave like the clones in other games, even if they are smarter!

It would be better if you got promoted dynamically. Why not use the point you get from missions?

Good idea. That would require some extra careful mission design though, and I'm not sure all mission types (esp. those that require some stealth) would work with AI squad leaders. But I think it's an interesting idea.
