UV mapping tutorial?

Recommended Posts

I am sorry if this topic is one that has peppered this forum for a while, But I simply can not get the search function to whip me up many tasty results.

I found some from Ben Mathis that are not really centred around Oxygen here or does a UV from Maya come across with an OBJ export into Oxygen2?

So if anybody knows of a good thread, tutorial, external link or anything else that can help me with effective UV mapping, I have battled my way through the modelling process, fought the end of level "Exporting from Maya" boss, and am now left with a very limited understanding of (not how UV works but...) how to efficiently lay out my UVs including how to use the UV tools on offer in Oxygen2.

Any and all help, links to threads etc will be much appreciated.

OBJ files transver the UVs from Maya to O2. I for one would never ever even try the O2 UV tools. Simply put, they are rubbish. You should Uv your model in Maya (it has proper tools for it), then move the mesh in O2 with UVs ready

If you are asking for tutorials regarind proper UV lay out for maya, a quick google search should give you plenty of results. Make sure you keep the islands between 0 and 1 in the UV space.

good to know... I have begun UVing my model now in Maya, which, as you rightly say, is way easier then attempting O2 UVing, not only because of the massive amount of UV help in the form of video tutorials available.

Though again, I'm fast realising the amount of work going into creating new content for ARMA, the LODs, the sort of 'weird memory vector thingys' and all the rest of it. But, determined not to fail, I plod on, sacrifice my social life, and hope for the best.

Q "what would you do if you knew you could not fail?"

A "recruit an army of modders to do my bidding"

if only.
