armboi 10 Posted February 14, 2013 I am having limited success with this weapon against slow flying SU-34 loitering over the AO. Suggestion welcome. I know, I know missiles 'miss'. Since its a heat seeker, it probably should be only fired from the rear aspect. What indication lets you know when to fire? I have yet to see an SU-34 do anything but make a lot of noise. "The Stinger is a man-portable, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft guided missile system designed to defeat low-altitude air targets. The system is a fire-and-forget missile with a passive infrared seeker and IFF (Identification-Friend-or-Foe) system. The latest versions have improved range, maneuverability and significant countermeasures immunity."
On_Sabbatical 11 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) front or back ... useless to try something else ... take also into consideration that they slow down very fast,so try to shoot at close distances (or install last beta,it fixed this ^^) Just keep aiming at the plane until you hear a continuous sound then shoot ! Laqueesha 474 Posted February 15, 2013 I'd say firing from the rear, or offset to the rear-left, rear-right is good. Firing at it from port or starboard, 90-degree angle rarely works.
armboi 10 Posted February 15, 2013 I am trying to kill a slow, low-flying, SU-34 from the rear-aspect ~300m and cannot get the Stinger to make any signal tone that its even beginning to track never mind lock it up. Helicopters are easy. I shoot them down without tone. I have never been able to get the Stinger to make any tone. I have seen videos on YouTube of guys who have though.
