Nort0n 1 Posted January 6, 2013 Hey guys, ever since installing my new card I've been having some issues with textures. Small or thin textures seem to flicker, it really bugs my eyes and I find it extremely distracting. CPU: i5-3570k GPU: Sapphire 7870 OC Edition Mobo: Asrock Extreme 4 RAM: Patriot Viper III 8GB @ 2133mhz PSU: Cooler Master 650W 80+ Certified I've also tried this card on a similar system with the same results: CPU: Phenom 965 BE\ GPU: Same Mobo MSI 770-C45 RAM: 4GB Patriot Viper II @ 1600mhz PSU: Same I've tried many different configs both in game and in CCC, I've tried drivers 12.8 through 12.11. I did cheap out on my PSU - http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_441&item_id=028286 Here's a video so you can see what I'm talking about: - notice the red & green house and surrounding area. (specific ingame settings are listed in description)1) Is this normal? 2) Could it be faulty card/psu? 3) Any idea how to fix this? Advice is appreciated -

I'm referring specifically the edges of the red/green house (window frames) and surrounding fences, i find that they tend to flicker - I haven't really seen this in other ARMA2 youtube videos. Maybe it's just because of the lowered quality or recording @ 30 FPS. Not sure but I find it extremely distracting and bothersome for my eyes.
chrisb 196 Posted January 7, 2013 The problem is, you could spend time getting rid of what is a pretty minor problem, well in arma terms it is, and just make yourself a bigger problem. Changing settings/configs here and there to try and get rid of what you are seeing in your vid, could leave you with bad results i.e. fps problems, etc. I would make a copy of all your settings now if you have a decent running game other than that problem, before messing around too much with anything else, at least that way you can rewind if need be, should you cure that but something else worse pops up..:). Yea I'll definitely do that, I'm just trying to figure out if I should RMA my card to be honest - trying to establish whether this is a hardware/software or ARMA related issue - I get this issue 24/7 from the second I join game, when running to a town off in the distance pretty much every outside edge of every building has that same sort of flickering. I've noticed this slightly in other games but not nearly as bad. Do you see similar things when you play?

Some of the more recent beta’s helped with similar problems, also have you tried altering SMAA settings to smooth out edges, may help, not sure. Yes I get this and more occasionally, not so much recently, as said, its better now, a couple of beta’s back it was really good, they got things pretty spot on, though its slipped again slightly, like I said, tackle one thing and another crops up or back. Unfortunately its like that with this series, but really it doesn't look bad, well for me it doesn't, then again I don’t play anything else, so don’t really compare nowadays…;) But don’t be too worried, a good while back it looked like , well for me it did:butbut:, thankfully its not like that now.. Nort0n 1 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Not sure how to check my version as I don't manually patch the game myself - I have my Arma 2, Arma 2 OA and Arma 2 OA beta on steam, which I believe are all automatically kept to the latest versions (I've scanned all of them for updates and steam is telling me their all up to date). chrisb 196 Posted January 8, 2013 First menu you come to when the game has loaded ‘Single Player’ etc, towards the bottom right of the screen should be a version number. Not sure if this applies to Steam, I have never used it..
