Strange question mark bug

Recommended Posts

This bug has been ailing me since my A2:F years, and seems to be quite unique, due to the fact I can't get the answers from a quick search. I don't know what causes it, nor how I can resolve it. It's a bug where everything I type becomes a question mark, so everything I type becomes "???????", and that confuses everyone, because I only type when I chat. Do any of you know what it is?

Are you using any mods? Does it always happen or just sometimes? Do you sometimes turn into a bird for no reason, or receive messages about birds? Do you ever have extremely poor accuracy for no good reason?

Actually, this is quite serious, very real and can seriously hamper gameplay communication online. It seems to happen after playing the game for a long time, I'm not sure what causes it, maybe excessive pressing of shift and/or alt key. As I've said, the ailment had been there since my A2:FREE days, which you do know cannot support mods. It only happens in Arma2, and the only way to solve it is to restart the game.

What keyboard language layouts are actively listed? Do you use layouts like Dvorak or so?

Or change the key which selects the language (Shift alt is quite often pressed ingame, thatfor my layout switches also often between german, italian, russian and english), or remove all the other layouts and stay with one.

Another idea, which I don't think is related to your problem: Do you use special Windows Styles with special Fonts? or did you replace standart fonts by other fonts? If so, also that might be a problem.

If it's so serious, why are you avoiding Max Power's questions?

Everything I asked about actually happens under certain circumstances. Perhaps you could answer my questions...

Hmrr... I thought you were being sarcastic :P... Anyways, no, I don't show these symptoms. All it affects is typing something in ArmA2, and restarting the game always works

Ah, thank you. I have Indonesian on, but it seems to be messed up. I'm *supposed* to be using it when I'm typing something in Indonesian, but because Indonesian types with exactly the same script as English, I never use it :P. Which in itself means that whatever it is is messed up, which may be linked to me installing Javanese script (tells you a lot about where I'm from, doesn't it?) Anyways, thanks, a minor hitch made into a massive problem, I'll just disable Indonesian (as I've said, exact same script). Thanks.

Very good. I'm glad you got it working, and it wasn't the other thing I was asking you questions about. Excellent!
