Arma2 Server/Dedicated Server Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

i bought a V-Server and wannt to Install an Arma 2 Server on it with some Mods. But i am very confused how. :confused:

I am sorry if this Question is to simple or stupid. What cind of Server i need to Install? Is this a normal "Server" or an

Dedicated Server and what is the Difference and the advantages disadvantages of both. And i need a new Key for

Arma for the Server or i can Install with my Keys?

Because in the Script i wrote for the Mission is mostly:

if (isServer)

{

}

greetings

There are two types of servers, dedicated and listen. A listen server is also a client (playing the game, and still acts as the server). A dedicated server is only a server. You'd want to set up a dedicated.

There are several guides on how to set up a dedicated server, it shouldn't be a problem to find one.

As for your script, (!isServer) will only run on clients.

isServer is true for both listen and dedicated server.

Ah okay so a listen Server is mostly like i am Host "local" a server on My Pc where can join other Players to play. On my V-Server the best way should be

to Install a dedicated. I need a Gamekey for the Server or i can use my Key of my ArmaX Game?

And Sorry i mean

if (isServer)

{

}

Correct. I do not think that you need a key to set up a dedicated server.

^ Cuel is correct.. you use a different .exe to run the server which does not do any key checks (this is true for Steam as well)
