erfworm 0 Posted July 1, 2002 Ok well I just bought a new computer and I get this bug where the screen pauses for half a second every second. I think its a driver related issue because I get this in Empire Earth also. My current set-up is as follows... AMD XP 1700+ Geforce 4 Ti 4400 (6.13.10.2942 detonator drivers) 256 MB Ram Win XP Pro PS- I have tried changing settings and I get the same error. So if it is a driver related issue which driver should I get? Thanks
theavonlady 2 Posted July 1, 2002 First of all, you should check all your drivers, motherboard, sound, BIOS - not just graphics. Second, once you do, search The FAQ for "stutter" and "input lag".
kabukiman 0 Posted July 1, 2002 I once had this problem when I had a Joystick installed in the Windows Control Panel, but it was NOT connected to the Joystickport! OFP then thinks there's a Joystick and tries to connect to it, which fails resulting in a "stop" every few seconds. You may need to either connect the joystick or disable it in Windows Control Panel/OFP!
theavonlady 2 Posted July 1, 2002 I'm also adding the following new FAQ item, based on experiences reported by Resistance players so far: Why is OFP: Resistance so slow and stuttery compared to the old OFP version? There could be a lot of causes for this. First of all, OFP: Resistance offers much greater graphic detail than the previous OFP version, even when playing old missions and campaigns on the old island. As a result, the recommended system requirements have been upped a notch or two for OFP: Resistance. If you're new to OFP altogether, I suggest that you search The FAQ for words such as "performance", "tweak", "lag" and "stutter" and that you make sure that all of your motherboard, BIOS, video and sound drivers are up to date. Even if you've got a relatively fast system with a good video adapter, players have reported stutter and slow performance after they initially installed OFP: Resistance. Some players found the cure was to decrease the new TERRAIN DETAIL and VISIBILITY settings in OFP's VIDEO OPTIONS menu, which they had overenthusiastically maximized to see what Resistance can do. Some players found that removing all non-official addons, islands, missions and campaigns from OFP's subdirectories resolved the stuttering problems. Other players decided to go to the extreme of uninstall OFP: Resistance and OFP and reinstalling everything from scratch.
erfworm 0 Posted July 1, 2002 Thanks Avon I had already tried searching but couldnt really go by a certain word so you cleared up the search for me so Ill go ahead and try. Also all my drivers are the latest ones, I might have forgotten to put that. My main problem is I think my graphics driver because I have heard that sometimes the latest arent always the best on these forums. And I think this is the case with me. Also thanks Kabukiman for the suggestion but as of now there has been no joystick or controller installed on my computer. Well thanks for the help. BoonieRat 0 Posted July 2, 2002 Sounds like you've got a hardware monitoring proggie running in the background. Turn off everything except 'explorer' and 'sys~tray' by 'Alt', 'Ctrl' & 'Delete'~ing into the 'close program' window.
