kraxous 1 Posted September 30, 2012 Firstly I would just like to point out I'm not knocking the game, this is just simply a 'bug release' or a 'small' rant. So when I first installed the game, I got to the main menu and had to specifically reduce the mouse sensitivity for it to work adequately. This kinda' put me off but I thought, "Heck, I have been dying to play this so some mouse senstivity wont put me off!" but that was nothing compared to what I have discovered. During the campaign, things kept jumping from wall to wall with no real backstory behind it. The Lieutenant you play as keeps apologising and thanking people, (not that there is anything wrong with that but in a Military operation, your CO would be the last person to apologise) but once again that was just a minor point. Then I got into FPS mode and I said, "Oh yeah! This is AWESOME!" but then my mouse sensitivity screwed itself over once again so I had to reduce it even more. Then I tried jumping and reloading; both features are not available to use. Then things like this began to let the FPS side down (I understand it's an RTS but why put FPS in if it isn't good?) Killing robots was a (real) challenge, five bullets and BAM they are dead. Seriously? I expected a challenge. Objective waypoints, throughout the entire game I was questioning myself on where to actually go, all it showed was a waypoint thousands of metre's away with no real objectives close by. I must have spent about half an hour attempting to open the gate where you lose Essi simply because I couldn't find the control panel. So further on in the game I was moving to the Walrus when I thought some objects were floating and I moved backwards and they wasn't so I carried on and turned around... To my surprise the decal for the road was floating in mid-air! The yellow lines! By this point I lost all hope completely for the FPS and I NEVER want to play any of the campaign again if it carries on like that. So enough about the campaign... Next comes the Skrimish Mode! Let me just tell you now: I LOVE IT! It's so cool! Except... You guys either got lazy, or bugs lurk where you haven't patched. The barque or whatever the name of the supply (ship?) that comes to your aid, when the AI says: "Barque has arrived." I had to see what it looked like, but to my surprise, nothing was there. So I thought it could be a small glitch. I requested another supply shipment to purposely see the barque but once again, it didn't appear. For the THIRD time I tried again yet still nothing. Once again, is this pure laziness or some bugs that haven't been fixed? If you don't have a model/mesh for the barque, maybe make it into a helicopter that lands on the back of your ship? Lack of units. I understand that you are trying to base it off the 1989 version of CC but can you not add more units? Don't get me wrong, I love the units we currently have on the game but can't you make more? For example: Mine drones that stay in the water which can be deployed via a Manta minelayer - they explode on impact with a Walrus or the enemy Carrier. Troops which can be garrisoned in a Walrus (8 per Walrus) and can invade the island. My point being that it needs more units but overall, excellent game experience with the current ones. Also the drone camera. When you launch a survelliance drone, the camera glitches when you switch to a unit and it turns into the camera like the one in the drone, this get's annoying. Yet another point that stressed me out was the fact of floating objects. Here is a picture of an operation I was conducting with a Manta delivering a Walrus back to the Carrier. On my way back I noticed these floating objects here: http://i46.tinypic.com/2va18uh.png now I can't tell whether, once again, it's just laziness or bugs - I reckon laziness at this point. A big giant floating door. YAY! I hope they bring some patches out fixing all these points. Thank-ye' for reading, - Joe.
Nicholas 5 Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) I can understand your frustration with trying to find objectives. There are more FPS scenes in the campaign and in one of them, I think I spent a good 20 minutes running around in circles looking for a control room. I walked by it about 3 times and didn't even notice it. Later in the campaign, you encounter an enemy barque dropping some supplies at an island. Here is what it looks like. Not sure why we can't see it when it drops supplies at our carrier. Perhaps it is a submarine? I think they could add more units and have a "Classic Strategy" game mode that would still stay true to the original. I can't wait to see what modders will come up with. Hopefully we can see some multiplayer as well. I still think the game is perfect as it it, but adding more goodies won't hurt anything. :) Edited September 30, 2012 by Nicholas

I have seen this land at the pier when it drops off the Command Centre Re-construction Module! I had a feeling it was that but I would still like to see it xD. The game is not quite perfect, maybe when they fix the bugs and add a few more 'goodies', then we will talk perfect. But I love the game don't get me wrong :D. I think it took me about 20 minutes of running around to find it. I ran by it about 3 times.
kraxous 1 Posted September 30, 2012 Heck yeah, I love playing it. Out of all my 135+ PC games, this is currently my favourite. One thing I really, REALLY want to do is make a mod for it with more units and a bigger Carrier. I just don't know how to make one! :P I did that exact thing too! I ran past it at least five times in attempt to reach the Control Room. In conclusion, I sat in a dark corner and rocked backwards and forth while robots shot at me. It's all well and good! But eventually I found it :P.
tortuosit 486 Posted September 30, 2012 The barque IS a submarine. If that is lazyness is up to you, but it is a submarine. I think it's understandable from the story point of view, because it's hidden and will not be attacked. EDIT: See p. 13 of the PDF manual.
Suranis 1 Posted September 30, 2012 I do think it would be a great little touch if the barque surfaced beside you when it reaches you. Its little touches like that that make a game sparkle.

I agree with you here, Suranis. Little things such as launching small attack waves with soldiers is fun as hell and gives that 'spark' to a game. Like the Barque being able to surface from periscope depth and run along side you, a small crane or something that delievers the cargo on the back of the ship while it's stationary. I'm not sure but it'd be nice to see the barque :).
