lawndartleo 109 Posted September 4, 2012 Greetings, I have a spare box that meets all the published requirements and bandwidth to match so I decided to try my hand at hosting my own Windows dedicated server. I have plenty of resources at hand to get it set up but one question that I cant seem to get answered by my reading is... what about my CD key? As the machine is right here next to me, I have the ability to simply drop in the CD's and install the game, but if I use my CD key that is in use on this machine that I use for game play, will I create any headaches for myself? I'd hate to set up a server and try to join it just to discover that the CD key is in use. That would suck. My guess is no because I will be using the dedicated server .EXE, but a little reassurance would help. Thanks in advance. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
eddieck 10 Posted September 5, 2012 The CD key is necessary to install the game on Windows, but running a server will not change the state of your CD key with GameSpy. In other words, you can run a dedicated server and also play the game on two separate machines, with the same CD key. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
