Can gmax be used for ofp in modd making?

Recommended Posts

Hi, again. Curious to know if one can use GMAX with OFP since Oxygen is not out yet. Any response appreciated. Thanks

You cannot import models yet without Oxygen.

However, you do not need 3D Studio Max either. Gmax was made for gamers so that we can make our very own 3D models from scratch, or just re-skin existing models.

Then you can use the Tempest game pack (Quake) and export the file as MD3, then convert it with Milkshape to a bunch of various filetypes.

I am hoping that BIS will make a OFP game pack for Gmax, though. It would make it so much easier. Tempest has flaws like everything else, it loses bits of information when converting the files and you will have to use a compiler to restore it. Tempest is still beta, though, so it will get better.

Microsoft supports Gmax with Flightsim 2002 Pro (it ships with Gmax) and Dungeon Siege. Microids will make a game pack for a Tennis game too, then we have Trainz, Quake and more, and this is only the beginning.

What BIS will have to do is buying a Gmax Developer pack, to make a game pack for us biggrin.gif (I am begging on my knees)

It´s all here:

(the cool looking plane is actually part of the Gmax tutorials)

no, you cannot encrypt the .p3d ofp uses without oxygen(possible p3dedit), so you cannot save it as a lot of different file types

but you can use gmax and export into .3ds which o2 can import

GMAX cannot export .3ds format and .3ds is a suitable fileformat for models in this case.

But there is a way around it. You can export Q3 format using a plugin for GMAX and you can Import that to Milkshape (free 30 day trial) and then export it to .3ds in Milkshape.

You can p3d edit with it, i managed to turn the mp5 into a mangled peice of black metal somehow. I remember I had to go trhough a bunch of shit to get it to the right file types and I did have to use milkshape at one point to convert something.
