Retcher 1 Posted August 15, 2012 Hey guys, a few weeks ago I tried several times to set up an ArmA2 OA Server on my linux root. I followed several howto's, but every time I just get errors when starting the server. I'm not able to provide any logs, because the server was reinstalled a few days ago. Does anyone has a working howto? My clanmates starting to become angry, because the server is still not running. My second problem is, that I have an uploaded ArmA2 OA installation with patch 1.60. Is there any possibility to patch these files to the actual patch? Kind regards Retcher

Kind regards Retcher This how-to should get you up and running: http://www.apollon-domain.co.uk/?p=221 While it's for Ubuntu 10.x it works fine for 12.x As for updating from 1.60 to 1.62, no the only safe way to do an upgrade is to completely re-upload a copy from a patched windows system. If you're having trouble with the install I'd strongly encourage you to follow this safe method instead of trying to take any short cuts. As for the 'unstable' alpha for 1.62 on Linux, it crashes a *lot*, about 50-60% (from my experience) of the time watchdog catches the crash and is able to reset the arma2 server, the rest of the time, the crash hangs the server, requires that the process (of both the watchdog and arma2oaserver) be killed by hand and then restart the server... If you're not comfortable with finding the process ID and killing it from the command line, you may wish to wait for a more stable Linux dedicated server to be released. If you need a hand getting linux setup send me a PM I'd be happy to hop on skype with you and walk you through the install.
Retcher 1 Posted August 15, 2012 Hi, thank you for your help. I will try this at the weekend. But first I've to upload the new version of ArmA 2 OA :(
Overlord 0 Posted August 15, 2012 Be sure to have a running 1.60 before you upgrade to 1.62a. When you got 1.60 running (do not upgrade your game until then), you could patch your game to 1.62, then upload the new/changed files (sort by date). Then you'll get a 500MB- upload instead of 16 GB... This is what I did, and it works pretty well. Haven't got crashes, but have only played for about six hours on server. My Ubuntu is 10.04/64 Server btw, with glib 4.6/7. Guess you know you don't use DLCs on server? Only the lite once included.
Retcher 1 Posted August 18, 2012 Hey guys, which server version should I use? The last 1.60 beta or the stable once? @Overlord: Thanks for this tip. I'll try this.
NeoArmageddon 958 Posted August 18, 2012 which server version should I use? The last 1.60 beta or the stable once? As far as I know, there was never a "stable" 1.60 linux server. All of them are named "beta". This is the version you are looking for: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?137098-ARMA-2-Operation-Arrowhead-Linux-Server-beta-1-60-94743 Tip for uploading: Share the work with your clanmates. One uploads addons, another one expansion, u.s.w. And you can save some time, if you zip/rar you arma-folders for upload, even without compression. One large file is always faster compared to a lot small files.
Retcher 1 Posted August 19, 2012 Thanks for your help guys, server seems to run fine. At the moment I haven't installed ArmA myself so I cann't check it.
Retcher 1 Posted August 19, 2012 So guys I just checked if I can join the server but it wasn't possible. JayC 0 Posted August 19, 2012 Again, the only SAFE way to upgrade from 1.60 to 1.62 is to do a complete upload from a fully patched windows system... Taking short cuts if you don't know what you're doing causes issues... Another method that would work, is using rsync... but again if you're not comfortable with Linux and command line I wouldn't recommend it. As for your error, it appears you're trying to run a 1.60 version of arma2oaserver with 1.62 files? That won't work. So guys I just checked if I can join the server but it wasn't possible.Everytime a user wants to join, I get this output: 16:33:55 Dedicated host created. 16:33:56 BattlEye Server: Initialized (v1.126) 16:33:56 Host identity created. Retcher 1 Posted August 20, 2012 Hey, I've rolled backup to 1.60. At the moment when I get the errors nothing of 1.62 is implemted. The server files version ist 1.60 94743. I separated the updated files of 1.62 in an other directory and have made a backup of the 1.60 files, so don't have to upload them again if I make a mistake. Overlord 0 Posted August 20, 2012 1 Be sure you have NO CAPITAL letters in file/folder names (run ./tolower from main ArmA folder) 2 Join server with your own 1.60 game (you shouldn't patch it before you got i.60 running...) 3 Try another mission as opening mission But your Watchdog works :)
