Cold War Assault: FFUR mods

Recommended Posts

To avoid any confusion, I am running Arma: Cold War Assault on my MacBook Pro threw a service known as playonmac. My problem is not playing the game itself, it runs like a champ without any problems. No, my issue is getting the FFUR mod's to work for me. In particular, I'm trying to get the FFUR 85' 2008 edition to work, or the older desert, woodland, and winter mods. The installation runs fine for all of these mods in playonmac, but I'm having trouble creating a shortcut and finding the correct location to install these mods to. I would really appreciate it if anyone familiar with playonmac, or if someone who has had a similar experience with mods in Cold War Assault, could assist me in getting these to work. Any and all help would be very appreciated.

I have zero experience with Macs ... The only problem I know of with ArmA: CWA and FFUR mods is that the installer works fine, but things like sky replacement packs aren't working (because they look for OFP files that are now renamed and folders that can't be found because of the simplified folder structure ... ). What folder has ArmA: CWA been installed to?

Well, I guess you could say the folder is playonmac. Basically all of the game data is available from the services dashboard as you can see in this photo

If I click on the directory, everything comes up in a new folder like so.

It's supposed to be an easier alternative to a basic wineskin wrapper, but I'm not so sure that's the case with mods. Does this help at all?

The correct location is the CWA folder, is there no folder in there that has "ffur" in it?

If not, the mod might be installed to what used to be the default OFP install location (from memory C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint), which obviously isn't going to work on a Mac ...

Is it possible to extract/install the mod to a different location, like a standard OS X folder, and then move it into the CWA folder? That would leave the problem with the shortcut, and I have zero idea of what the folder structure of a Mac looks like ... :p

No there isn't, but I can choose to install the FFUR mods basically anywhere I want except playonmac. Your correct about the mods wanting to out of default install to the OFP location. I alway's change that of course because it does not exist. Yes, it's quite easy to install the mod to a standard folder and then move it into the CWA folder. I've tried it before and it works without a problem, but I get stuck after that point. Is my problem just the shortcut then? Oh, and what you saw before is the layout of a mac folders structure. It's very simple.

All that stuff above the folder is just how you want to organize the content inside the folder itself. By icons (what I use), by list, columns, and so on.

Unless there is a problem running these particular mods on Macs that we don't know about I would say that is the only problem if the mod's folder is in the right place. Have you made shortcuts before on your Mac? Did you add the "-mod=ffur85" bit to the end of the shortcut's field where it points to the CWA's executable? (maybe OS X has a separate parameter field and you would need to put it in there ... )

Ok, so here is what I've done. Playonmac let's me create a shortcut after I download the mod threw the configuration feature shown here.

As you can see, I created a separate folder for the mod. I can set the shortcut to move to that folder like so

But what do I move the shortcut into it? That's my problem I think. Can't find the correct location to place it.

That folder name is too long, make it something like "ffur85w" and put it in the base CWA folder. Put the shortcut into the base CWA folder as well when you create it. For the "Please choose a file" path thing choose the executable of the game (ColdWarAssault.exe? Not sure since I don't have the game here ... ). Try to see if the game works through that shortcut ... then we'll try to figure out how to add the -mod parameter ...

Ok, I renamed it ffur85w, put it into the CWA folder, removed the CWA folder from the virtual drive so I could choose ColdWarAssault.exe as the path, and then I got this when I clicked the exe...

Did I do something wrong?

Yes, FFUR like some other mods FFUR must be in the OperationFlashpoint directory and the mod folder must be left exactly as installed. If you rename the folder FFUR won't be able to locate required files.

Also a Windows shortcut has two components to it.

The Target field: "E:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" -nomap -nosplash -mod=@ffsx85

and the Start In field: "E:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint"

The target field is very importatnt because it launches the executable file with the redirection to the mod folder. Maybe it's not possible to run Mods for OFP/CWA on a MAC.
