Hey all I'm new, what DLC/Mods should I get?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently downloading ARMA 2 and OA, I was just wondering besides DayZ what expansion is the most popular one that everyone is playing as far as multiplayer so I don't buy a bunch of them only to be let down because no one plays that particular one anymore?

Thanks.

The only expansions that you have to pay for are British Armed Forces (BAF) and Private Military Company (PMC) - these are both published by BIS and are worthwhile buying, but won't provide any extra multiplayer content.

As for all the community mods, addons, missions and campaigns, they are all free. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of them, so picking a favourite is purely down to personal preference in the end. Check out these threads...

Welcome to the community, Hessian69.

The community largely will buy expansions and DLCs, but the DLCs come in lite versions for multiplayer compatibility in patches. That is to say, if you have Operation Arrowhead, or ArmA 2: Combined Operations, you will get BAF, PMC, and the upcoming ACR DLC with poorer textures and without missions or campaigns.

The bulk of the content in the community, including addons, total conversion mods, missions, and things in between, are usually all free to download. So have a look in the Addons and Mods threads in the stickies to get an idea of what is going on there.

Lastly, please have a look at our forum rules. We do require descriptive thread titles so users can know what the thread is about without actually reading the thread. And also, search before posting. There are quite a few 'best addons/mods' thread around. Check those out. Thank you!

I'll leave this one open for a bit for you to ask some more questions about the difference between DLC and Addons / Mods.
