Guest Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks for all the replies :) I'm now wondering when the alpha will come out, in order to decide if I should buy arma2 or to directly try yo get into the alpha/beta. never touched A2, but to be honest, i dont think wait at least 2 weeks to 1 month so you can play the first alpha of a game being already buggy on the final relase its a quite good idea, also, Arma series is know for using a japanese-last-tech-metal-gear computer to run ArmA 2 on min graphics with at least 3 fps (a joke, to give you the idea of how bad-optimized is the arma series) i think you should go for ArmA 2 CO, and get the DLC if you can, PMC is one of the best DLC i have ever seen in any videogame, and the bis devs listen more to the community and the users than VALVe, there are a ton of addons and mods (id recommend ACE wich expands gameplay for a more realistic game, PR wich does almost the same and VTE, wich is a vietnam mod, if you want to, you can try Cold War rearmed, wich is a mod that remake the original OFP CWC game into ArmA 2, and i have nothing to say about DayZ)
metalcraze 290 Posted May 21, 2012 Which is the well optimized game that can be compared in scale to ArmA2 in your opinion? By this I mean huge well detailed maps, complex AI, engine handling every single object on the map at all times providing for persistent gameplay, ballistics and ricochet for bullets and so on so forth. jagheterjan 10 Posted May 21, 2012 He already stated he never touched A2, so who out there could be better suited to comment on the details of how efficient the A2 code is written?

Heh. Like I said, I run it now on a 2008 vintage rig at 30 ish fps in most situations. 45 ish on Takistan. Bugs: OA was NOT BUGGY on release. Things worked. BAF didn´t have any major bugs on release. PMC did´t have any major bugs on release. TOH didn´t either, as a side note. Can we drop the bugs thing already? Have you been living under a rock? Arma 2 was a bugfest, granted. But it´s not fair to ignore everything else inbetween. PMC: This is, as far as content goes, mediocre. The models especially are partially pretty weak. Some of the characters are shameless kitbashes from OA models. What this has going for it is the campaign, nothing else. BAF is the better DLC of both. The models are excellent, the mini-campaign is great, and the missions supplied with it are great fun. As for optimization, the other competitor with a similar scale is Dragon Rising. And that game was so bad at streaming things that vehicles didn´t even render if more than three of them were on screen at the same time. It also had a total limit of 64 entities (including the player). Single group limit for Arma is above a hundred. I don´t know how many units you can cram into a single group, but it´s MANY. The scale of Arma 2 is unrivalled on the gaming market. There is no alternative, for better or for worse.
