Which package do I buy to get into the Arma series?

Which package to I buy to get into the Arma series? Im going to buy off of steam, do I just need the Combined assault? It includes Arma 2 and another Arma game...i think its 29.99. Let me know! I want to start!

Combined ops has ArmA II plus Addon (Operation Arrowhead) which makes everything better even the "old" ArmA II stuff!

I recommend buying CO, and playing the OA Tutorials and the Campaign (You can also play with friends) - here you can learn the basics! Then join a few Multiplayerserver (Maybe additional Mods needed -> SixUpdater, They are free). If you like it, buy definatley the PMC / BAF DLCs. You dont need the DLCs because BIS gave everyone the light option, but they look not so good (Textures).

Yes, get 'Combined Assault' as it contains 'ARMA2' & 'ARMA2:Operation Arrowhead'

There are also 2 addon packs you can get:

PMC: Private Military Company

BAF: British Armed Forces

These contain new weapons, vehicles etc.

If you do not have these you can still play on servers that have them but you will see low res versions of those units and equipment.

Once you have it installed, check the version number (Bottom right of main menu screen). It should be 1.6 followed by other numbers.

Personally I recommend grabbing the Arma Annivesary X. Because it includes, CO (A2+OA) + the BAF and PMC expansion packs. It also includes Arma 1 and their spiritual predecessor which, despite its age (10 years), is still a very good game. Plus there's all kinds of bonus content (Soundtrack CD, large-scale map, etc.) It's €50 on Steam but you can get it from Sprocket (BI's own digital delivery platform) for the same price and it all goes to the developers (rather than distributor). If you're really tight, you can always grab CO for €25 from Sprocket!
