BobRpgGamer 1 Posted April 18, 2012 Hey, I Got A couple of questions about my Steam ArmA Combined Operation games. I used to have Operation Flashpoint, and also had the original ArmA. Problem was I sold them because I kind of Suck a bit at the true Military Sim Genre, even Ghost recon used to be a bit much at times. Anyway knowing that I am not too great at the Sim part of the game, I was wonder why when I first installed and played ArmA 2, I had a green icon on all enemies and a red Icon on all Friendlies - this may have been opposite I don't remember -. This is of course is close to cheating, but nothing bugs me more than accidentally shooting a friendly unit, Sometimes I feel so stupid that I just throw a grenade on the ground and stand on it for punishment. Now I don't see these markers on the units at all. I was wondering how I get them back or what setting will bring them back. It seemed to be fine until I used the Steam batch file to combine the games. One more question. I don't play online at all, and was wondering If like the old ArmA I could Assign AI to coop maps. I find that only a few maps have AI and Can't seem to assign any AI to the players on the map like you could with the original ArmA. The pool of players on the right of the screen has me and no one else to assign. Maybe this feature was taken out I don't know. The main thing is the colored ticks or marks on the other players. I really liked that and got used to it. Thank you. ---------- Post added at 22:00 ---------- Previous post was at 20:52 ---------- Hey, I Got A couple of questions about my Steam ArmA Combined Operation games.I used to have Operation Flashpoint, and also had the original ArmA. Just went into my profile and adjusted the difficulty and put markers back on. Still wish I could play coop maps with AI though.
Gunter Severloh 4071 Posted April 18, 2012 Hi Welcome to BIS forums and a real game. I think you missed this thread: ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?97006-ATTN-NOOBIES!-New-to-ArmA-II-or-OA-Here-s-the-place-for-your-questions its under the general section. I used to have Operation Flashpoint, and also had the original ArmA. Problem was I sold them because I kind of Suck a bit at the true Military Sim Genre, even Ghost recon used to be a bit much at times. You sold OFP!? are you nuts!!! What kind of fan sells OFP?! I was like you back in when the demo came out for OFP, I tried the demo and it was beyond me, but it intrigued me, but found it very hard, so i put it down for a month came back and haven't looked back. You thought OFP was hard? It had a difficulty selector in it, Arma2 is harder with the better AI. All I can say is be persistence and you will get the hang of it. For you i recommend some help in your tactics: review this page, and learn and apply you will get better with practice: ArmA II Hints and Tips http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_II_Hints_and_Tips As for your issue which you said you solved, all you needed to do is go into gameplay options on the menu and change the control under difficulty. Also you dont need to quote yourself, when you make a reply to your own post the same day if no one else posted then that post will join the frirst one. Hope that helps. BobRpgGamer 1 Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks for the help. I did hit the wrong option with quote thing. I knew someone would wonder about that one! I figured this was the only help section of the forum. Next time I will post where I am supposed to. My main problem with the Military Sims is that I never see the enemy before I am shot. I got to practice Looking around a bit more. Thanks again.
Gunter Severloh 4071 Posted April 19, 2012 I got to practice Looking around a bit more. Yup always recon, or scope out the area your moving into, look for available cover you can move to if you are being attacked, or are going to attack ect,., read the hints tips guide, it has several links in it to other stuff that will help you out. NoQuarter 0 Posted April 19, 2012 ...Sometimes I feel so stupid that I just throw a grenade on the ground and stand on it for punishment... ..I don't play online at all...You are either being too hard on yourself or are a virtual masochist...particularly as you post that you are SP-only. Save that type of self-correction for when you eventually find yourself in the servers. Another thing to keep in mind is that this is just a game afterall...and that you should be having fun with it. gunso 10 Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Still wish I could play coop maps with AI though. you can play all the coop and mp mission alone with AI and it's pretty easy. Just go to multiplayer and host a game, to be safe since some mission require dedicated server. Just run arma2oasvr.exe (or something like that), then tab back to arma 2 and go to multiplayer, switch to local and you will see your own server. pick a mission and vote yourself as admin so you can change the parameter and stuffs. But playing online with others make it easier to ask stuffs that you didn't know since each mission is different in it's own way. Use mic for better game experience, easier to ask questions too =3. since it's a sim some real tactics works well if you're frustrated with the game. it's not a common shooter so normal shooter tactic wont work at all since 1 shot will get you crippled or killed easily. try this when controlling AI. 1. Hold fire - do not disclose your location to the enemy, wait for all your AI to get into position and report that they spot the enemy. Ambush is always better than frontal charge attack. Make priority target, always try to kill vehicles and commanders 1st. you dont want to attack with a big MG pointing at your troops. 2. Direction - Tell your AI where to concentrate E,W or etc. so they wont waste time looking all around. 3. Use hard cover - stay behind rocks instead of bushes and roll for cover when they discover your location, DO NOT peek at the same location again but relocate to others to snipe again. Enemy AI will concentrate on your previous location and will give you a head shot when you peek, they will also advance to your location and try to flank you. 4. Sniper - everyone wants to be the sniper but there's no point being a sniper when your are shooting at 500m or less, use the advantage of sniper guns and attack from 700-1000m away like a real sniper should do. Relocate when the enemy is sending vehicles to your location. 5. Moving - Frustrated when you're walking towards the AO and lose half your units to enemy patrols? Send 1 guy as recon in the front and tell him to hold fire. when he spot enemies tells him to stop and go prone. Then you can get your bearing and plan what to do. 6. King of the hill - Yeah it's fun to be on top of the hill where you can see all the enemies but you need to remember that THEY can also see you once you shoot and announce your position to them and it's really bad if they do have more firepower than you. (look at all the afgan documentary and see how they even call the A10 to bomb a location where they knew the fire is coming from) 7. My AI is a retard! - Use AI mod enhancement like Zeus AI or a few others. Once you're starting to use mods do have a look into JSRS and Blastcore too =3 . AI cant see too far so they rely on you to tell them where the enemy are. I still prefer OFP method of right click using binocular which dont work really well in arma 2 if there's a few leaves in front of you. you can hear yourself relaying enemy information to them and your AI say when he saw the enemy. Recon, recon and relay the info to your units. 8. Tank != Rambo - Yeah tanks is impressive but dont use them like an assault unit, a cheap rpg will easily cripple it. Use all the expensive stuffs in it to recon from long range. Attack from afar too if possible. Move in and leave 1 unit on a hill to provide cover when you're moving in. Play the game like you only have 1 life then you'll love it XD Edited April 27, 2012 by gunso
