First time running an ARMA 2 server, need some tips / advise

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

Just a little bit of a background, I'm opening up an ARMA 2 server to our Southeast Asian gaming community (OMGeek.net) and I kinda need some help on some stuff as this is my first time administering an ARMA 2 server, but me myself I've been playing on and off.

Anyways, here is my question: I'm running a Combined Operation server and should my players need CO to connect or can OA suffice? Also, what if my players only have Vanilla ARMA 2, will they still be able to connect?

What maps would you guys also suggest for a new group to ease into ARMA 2. We've mostly have been playing BF3 a lot so I'm thinking of maps that need some action from the get-go

Thanks in advance!

welcome mate :bounce3:

A2 is a different engine. They need a copy of OA or CO.

They can get it here from BI directly: http://www.sprocketidea.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37

OA only people can go for CO lite:

You could try PR:A2 (needs people to get their MOD).

Or try some of the non addon PvP game modes. Check our wiki here:

You might find the guides there useful as well.

Or get these mission packs:

Thanks for the comprehensive reply PVP

I see the mission packs use Six Updater also and I find the utility quite interesting and would want to use it on our own server

Problem is their guide (http://www.six-projects.net/wagn/Six_Updater) seems to be a bit confusing. Is there any simpler guides out there? I tried to google some, but it kept pointing me back to their official guide

Are you running linux or windows? If you run windows do you have RDP acces?

SixUpdater has a very very good support in form of a skype channel. :)

Ah unfortunately we're hosting through a GSP (Game Server Provider) called Hypernia, so I don't really have RDP access, just FTP. Will that be possible? I would really like to get ACE in the server also once my players familiarize themselves.

I will also try the Skype group channel! I'm glad they have this!!

Hi Guys, it's me again to ask another question. This time regarding addons / mods

I'm planning to install two mods on the server JSRS and Blastcore

I've been reading up on how to install them server side and I would just like to clarify that should I just put the addons in the root folders where ARMA 2 is installed and name it with @JSRS and @Blastcore?

Although I am not sure what to put in the command line when starting up the server

Hope someone can help clear this one out for me

And thanks again in advance

hi, thanks for setting up server for south-east asian community. it always has been a small niche community of players.

from what i know, @jsrs is a client-side mod, not very sure if u need on the server side.
