strac_sapper 1 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) I thought I had some idea about why the inventory sizes of the launcher ammo were the way they were, but after some research I admit to being befuddled. Let look: SMAW ammo (2 slots) = 4.4kg MAAWS ammo (3 slots) = 3.3-4.0kg smaller than SMAW ammo RPG7VL ammo (2 slots) = 2.6 kg and long RPG7VR ammo (3 slots) = 4.5 kg and long *all data from wikipedia. So it makes no sense for the MAAWS ammo to take more slots than both the RPG7VL and the SMAW ammo. Next is the "disposable" weapons, the AT4 and the RPG-18. Both are definitely not disposable, which is okay and can be remedied by mods, but their ammo is 6 slots! M136 ammo (6 slots) and 84mm RPG-18 ammo (6 slots) and 64mm NLAW ammo (3 slots) and 150mm (115mm tube) Its not clear to me why this is so. I have made a mod where the ammo slots for the MAAWS, RPG-18, and M136 are 2 each to better match the other weapons. This does not take into account the one shot nature of the two, but that was never on the table. There is a great mod here that makes them disposable, but it still keeps the ammo for the AI at 6 slots, which is what seems wrong. Disposable typically means it doesn't interfere as much with your normal load and is usually relatively "light". I've seen soldiers haul a couple AT4's on their packs for extended marches, with a full rifle ammo load as well. If anyone understands why BIS did this the way they did, please explain! :) Edited February 17, 2012 by strac_sapper fixed data
Beagle 684 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Hi strac_sapper I fully undertand your intention and your wondering about the strange way portable AT is handls in ArmA...ad to this that MAAWS and SMAW warheads are as strong as a TOW missile and have a effective range of 1400m instead of the more correct 500m at a straigt flight profile...If you ask me for my opinion the whole reperesentation of AT weapons is compete nonsense and plain casual player convenience. Just look at the NLAW...it should not be reloadable and none of the At weapons in game can be reloaded that fast by just one man. Add to this that even T-90 can be disable by one hit etc...this is endless and it won't be changes because it is that way for 12 years now in the series. All you can do is limit available AT in your own missions...M136 and RPG-18 seems O.K. the PG7V is also O.K. as a low grade AT...the PG7VL acts already like a VR should...the PG7VR in turn seems to be a grenade with micro nuclear warhead in this game. In ArmA AT lauchesr act more like a pocket stowable 105mm cannon and this is one of the main weak areas of the game, the other one is TAB and radar on various units that should not have such features...again, just for arcade player convenience that have no interest in Simulation. Even the speed of sound is not correct. Edited February 18, 2012 by Beagle
