Undage 1 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Hi, I hope this is in the right thread, I'm new to the forums, I've searched for other problems like this and I didn't find any answers. I am trying to edit the script for my communities mission file, when I try to go to Create a new server so I can beta test it, The game crashes before I even get to choose what map I want and I get the error (I had others attempt and they get the same result) "Data File too short 'MPmissions\beta_test.lingor.pbo'. Expected -508349148 B, got 3689935 B" I'm not sure what other information is needed for someone to figure out the problem. Just post anything you need to know, I'll try to respond ASAP. Thanks in advance! Edited February 15, 2012 by Undage
sickboy 13 Posted February 15, 2012 Delete mentioned file, it is corrupt. You can try getting uncorrupt version.
Undage 1 Posted February 15, 2012 Ok, Thank you. Do you know what could have made it corrupt? Is it a error in the code? or a download issue.
Undage 1 Posted February 16, 2012 So I have been testing it some more. The file is becoming corrupt as soon as I change anything inside the mission file. Like If I change Edited by to a new name it gives me the error stated above. So I'm assuming it's something to do with how I'm saving it. I'm editing it with Notepad with ANSI encoding. Am I doing it wrong here?
kylania 568 Posted February 16, 2012 If you change the name of the mission in the editor you lose all scripts and files within the mission. They remain with the original name. You'll need to copy them over to the new folder then export to MP missions again. You're not changing the name of the mission from within the mission.sqm itself using a text editor are you? Undage 1 Posted February 16, 2012 I am not even making it to the editer, I'm just renameing the .pbo file and putting .lingor at the end. I used makepbo on the file and now the error is gone. Now when I try to load the mission on a multiplayer server the page just refreshes. and won't launch the game.
kylania 568 Posted February 16, 2012 If the mission is set on Lingor it should already have that in the file name, mymission.lingor.pbo. You should never have to add the name of the island. The name of the mission is set from the save dialog of the editor, you shouldn't change that in other ways. The "name" of the mission as displayed on the mission list in multiplayer however is changed from the Mission Info/Weather panel in the Editor.

Undage 1 Posted February 16, 2012 Oh sorry, I'm not using the in-game map editor. I'm editing the mission files through Notepad. Here's the problem I'm having. After dropping the Beta.lingor (it is saved as a .pbo) into the Mp mission file in the Arma 2 OA directory I go to multiplayer< New< Create server< and then I choose my map "Lingor" I click on the Beta.Lingor and try to launch it; but it just resets the screen and does not ever launch. kylania 568 Posted February 16, 2012 Can you upload the mission somewhere? mediafire.com or something?
HazJ 1289 Posted February 16, 2012 You mean that you are getting kicked back to the mission list screen because that could have something to do with mission read from blank.
Undage 1 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Yes, after I attempt to launch the mission. The screen doesn't change. I'm still on the mission list screen. The only thing that happens is the background music resets to the beginning. What do you mean the mission is read from blank? How would I fix that? Edited February 16, 2012 by Undage
HazJ 1289 Posted February 20, 2012 That problem is normally caused when the mission requires content that the server/client is not running. What mission are you running and does it require mods ? Make sure your running the mods properly on the server. If the mission requires Arma 2 + OA then make sure your running CO and not OA standalone. To install CO you need Arma 2 + OA and you need to install Arma 2 first and then OA after.
twirly 11 Posted February 21, 2012 Oh sorry, I'm not using the in-game map editor. I'm editing the mission files through Notepad. There's your problem! Trying to edit the mission .sqm is the easiest way to screw things up.
kylania 568 Posted February 21, 2012 The problem was the source he was editing was a pbo turned into txt file he was given. We ended up finding the source of the mission and making the changes in the editor and the scripts properly and all is now well. :)
twirly 11 Posted February 21, 2012 Do you mean something like.... "Proving_ground.utes.pbo" was given as "Proving_ground.utes.txt"? Sorry if I misunderstood... I didn't catch that part.
kylania 568 Posted February 21, 2012 Yup, exactly. Someone had uploaded the file for him to Teamspeak, but it was saved as a txt file. :)
Aaron3178 1 Posted March 24, 2012 Yup, exactly. Someone had uploaded the file for him to Teamspeak, but it was saved as a txt file. :) I just edited a DomiOA map that I had (edited in notepad). I'm getting the same error message when I try to start a server, but when I checked, the mission file was still in .pbo format and I did not purchase the game through steam. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
