Porting the Queen's Gambit DC3 to ArmA2

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am a huge fan of civilian planes and would like to have some of them in ArmA2. I already successfully tried to use some Arma1 custom addons with CAA1. However there is one official plane that is missing in my collection: The DC3 from Queens Gambit!

I already tried to start the db1.pbo with the ArmA2-Armory "Try!"-Feature. The Hilux and the Datsun that are also included in this pbo throw out a couple of error-messages if you load the pbo this way but the dc3 works flawlessly. :)

I then tried to put the db1.pbo in my AddOns folder. There where no error messages whatsoever but I was not able to find any of the contained vehicles in the editor. It seems as if they just are not there. Perhaps i have got to change some of the config files or something?

It would be great to get a useful tip. I already searched some hours for a solution. I still can't believe nobody out there ever ported any qg-addons (civil Hummer, Mercs, etc) to ArmA2 whereas there is everything else contained in CAA1. :)

Porting addons between products generally requires the permission of the author, in this case BIS. I think all of the p3ds for ArmA 1 were released as example models, but not the Queen's Gambit stuff, which explains the absence of addons from QG. If you really want to have a go at it, you should contact Dwarden and see if they're game to letting you port that stuff.

Thank you for your answer. That seems to be the reason why there is no port out there.

However, I think it should not be a legal problem if I keep the port to myself (=do not release it and do not give it to anyone else). I would just like to have everything in ArmA2.

So if anyone could help me with my technical problem that would be nice. :)

Reverse engineering the software is against the EULA. We will not be discussing reverse engineering how tos in this forum.

I originally closed the thread but I changed my mind.

As long as we can discuss solutions that do not involve altering the original content then we can continue here. I do not think it's possible, though (to port it without changing some things in the source files).

Porting is not allowed until you have permission.

To get permission you would have to ask for.

So, ask officially for permission and source files (through PM) and you're surely get an answer...although this answer could be a "no" aswell.

BIS already gave source files to different people so it is not impossible, although i guess it is unlikely unless you have a certain reputation in the community. But "unlikely" is not equal to "impossible". Always worth a try.

Thank you for this information.

I think I will stop my efforts and look for another solution. Maybe there is a thirdparty addon out there somewere that is a adequate replacement for the original DC3 from QG.

I don't know why you don't just ask. You're acting like the answer is no.

Just put together a little proposal and send it off. Of course, they probably won't say yes for personal use. If you intend to port it and release it, and they say yes, you will have community support to complete your project.

We are not trying to discourage you from this project by saying that you must ask first, we are trying to encourage you to take the right steps to complete it ethically.
