Ideal hardware controls for TOH

Recommended Posts

Hi,

first I have to apologize for such stupid question, but I'm just an old lame man, who is very keen on simulators like TOH or A-10 Warthog, and I'm an ever-beginner obviously missing some VERY basic concepts.

I know there is a similar thread asking "what do I need to fully enjoy TOH", but my question is little bit different.

I would appreciate a lot if anybody could suggest me a set of gaming HW suitable for TOH.

I'm not really asking for particular HW types, I'd prefer to know what is quite close to real heli controls.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but heli is basically controlled by 2 sticks + pedals, right? One for collective, one for cyclics? I never remember which one is the one where you control the throttle by twisting it :-)

Now I have some Saitek Cyborg joystick with separate throttle control. Yesterday I purchased Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, which is absolutelly amazing piece of hardware and I'd be happy, if I could somehow utilize it also to control TOH

I'm also aware of the need of pedals, so next week I'm going to buy these + Track IR 5.

Do you guys think this combination will be fine for heli controls? I know HOTAS is designed for A-10, but problem is, that I like TOH and I like HOTAS and would like to use it together :-)

Another question...

I'd like to buy some more gadgets, mainly Saitek stuff like:

ProFlight Backlit Panel - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/bip.html

ProFlight Instrument Panel - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/fip.html

Pro Flight Multi Panel - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/multi.html

Pro Flight Radio Panel - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/radio.html

Does it even make sense to use these controls for TOH (or helis generally)?

Does anybody have experience with using any of these with TOH?

I'm not limited by money, so if you have some other suggestions that will make the feel better, they will be very welcome (by having no limit I mean some reasonable limit, please don's suggest to buy an accurate interior replica for $20.000 :-)).

Thank you very much in advance and once again sorry for asking so dumb.

Welcome !

HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) + pedals + Track IR is in my opinion the minimum to fully enjoy flying in TOH. I don't know the warthog but have his little brother, the T16000m. I know it's extra accurate and I think if I had a warthog I'd do something like that for take on and fix it into my leg. Don't know if it's reversible or not..

Hi,

Thanks a lot for reply, nice inspiration with the home built cockpit and what's quite important for me - it seems doable even for guy like me, whose greatest non-IT skill is to change the bulb (withnsome luck:)).

Anyway, to be honest, this is a bit too much hardcore for me. I don't want to dedicate my room just to the sim purpose. I can't imagine I would do some normal work on PC with the stick between my legs and sitting in the car seat ;-)

Well, if I got you right, you confirm there could be some use for Warthog in TOH - that's maybe the most important thing for me at the moment.

Do you also think it makes sense to use the second stick?

Cheers

The warthog will be awesome for toh. May be not as realist as a true setup but you'll be able to do what the chopper can do with an extreme precision.

By second stick you mean the cyborg? Or the left handed you had associated to him?

Or maybe you have 3 hands :butbut:

w8 ! I have to call mulder and scully :D

Hmmm why not to make a custum COLLECTIVE ;)

As that guy done : link

Cool for you I guess. Does choper have a back to center?

Edit; I just saw in a vid that you have two detente on your thorttle. I hope it's not a problem... The post one look amovible but not the idle one.

Can ou tell me if the idle one can be understood as "0".. I'm interested by this stick :)

Hi,

I use this little piece of art as my collective:

Kolli_206_Seite.jpg

Its phenomenal, and handbuild in Austria.

My cyclic is actually a modified X-52, but I think I'm gonna buy the Warthog joystick and modifiy the springs.
