Strange error in buldozer using World Tools !!

Recommended Posts

Every time I'm importing some objects using ArmA 2 world tools, buldozer crashes and I'm getting this error ...

error-1.jpg

any ideas of what may cause this ?

Note that I'm using the arma2oa.exe renamed as buldozer.

Also note that without any objects import I'm able to binarize and see in game my island.

Thanks in advance.

No need to do this if you have the latest tools installed - the buldozer.exe provided with them IS basically Arma2OA.exe - compatible with OA objects/roads etc....

That error is nothing to do with that though... that's an issue with your basic Project Parameters... the settings that control size of island, size of Base Layer, size of Sat layer, etc.....

Check them thoroughly, then reimport Sat & mask... see if it helps..... if not - post all those Project Parameter settings here and we'll take a look....

Maybe the size of the Island does not match.

Are you using the latest Tools???

With the new tools you dont have to use the oa.exe

Edit: bush was faster then me ;-)

OK I found that this might caused of my texture size in base (project parameters) as was 10x10 ... so increasing that I'm no longer having this error.

But now ... every time the buldozer crashes !!

I'm stuck on that ...

Edit : Bush was also faster than me :) ... as I don't have the latest tools version I'll give it a try just in case this will fix the problem.

I did a fresh install of BI latest version tools ... and I mean everything including my P: drive files (whatever needed to be in there) ...

Nothing ... buldozer is still crashing when I'm trying to view my map ... (note that this only happened when I have objects from arma 2 world tools imported).

:( :( :(

Edit : update ... now this buldozer crash occurs with or without any objects in my map !!

Please help !!

OK.....

Thinking again - it's likely that theres been some kind of scaling error during the WorldTools stage - you've ended up with an import file that places objects waay off the actual available terrain grid... importing the file places the objects "out there" but they may not be visible... but, since there's objects placed out there, buldozer is trying to include them.....

it may be that once they're imported and placed - deleting them might be tricky... try reverting to an earlier version of the pew - before you ever imported anything - see if that is OK

Or you could try "select all" and then hit the delete key...

Bush I've already tried this without any luck ... note that I have two different .pew one with and one without any objects.

Yesterday I did a full binarization of the empty of objects island and I have it already visible in game ... today I'm trying to do the same without any success !!

Also note that I'm working on your Limnos project using the initial xyz file ... (I hope there is no problem with that).

Note 2 : please be focused in buldozer crash every time (without any message) and discard the initial problem reffered in my first post.

hi again.....

please be focused in buldozer crash every time (without any message) and discard the initial problem reffered in my first post.

OK - lets check all the basics..... you reinstalled the latest tools... good...

Did you then unpack your gamestuff to P:\CA? - with Mikero's Arma2P tool??

Do you have a "failsafe" terrain you can try - like Sgt Ace's Tut Samplemap or something... if that loads and displays OK then the fault is likely to be with the terrains... if not, then it could be the actual P:\ drive / buldozer setup...

Successfully running Arma2P after the Tools install is usually a one stop P:\ drive setup which usually ensures you have all the right files in all the right places.....

Once you get all this stuff setup and configured properly it's usually hassle free from then on... Mikero's tool is handy because it knows where everything should go and what format it should be in and it does it all for you!... It eats page memory though, and it takes a while to complete..... a fresh reboot then launch that and make a snack and with a bit of luck you should have a fully equipped P:\ drive...

If you need a little introduction to doing that it's covered in my beginners guide initial setup section... there's a link in my sig...

Make sure that P:\ drive is properly and fully installed and configured, then get a failsafe island on there and try it out... if you can get that working reliably - then setup your own terrain again - no objects one first, and try to get it in and displaying next.....

Bush I have unpacked whatever needed using ArmA2P from my previous islands (I've already 2 islands playable - but not released to public).

Also I've tried with Sgt Ace's Tut Samplemap but still buldozer crashes all the time.

I'll try for one more time use the ArmA2P just in case something is wrong with that in my P: drive but to be honest I don't believe that this is the problem as I'm not using any objects and buldozer still crashes as mentoned.

EDIT :

ok I did everything from scratch ... and ... I was wrong !!

It seems that there was a conflict between new BI tools version and old ArmA2P gamestuff !!

After updating and resetting everything into P: drive, the problem with buldozer solved !!

I'll do some more checks with my maps as I have some artifacts in previous versions but in any case major problem solved ...

Bush I owe you some beers (or cakes :) ) .... thanks a lot my friend for support.

What's your 'command-line' parameters set as in Visitor3 for launching 'buldozer'? It's under 'Tools>System Preferences'.

Edit: Lol, oh well, I see you've solved it. Goodonya.

Synide my command line is exactly as Bush proposed in his tutorial ...

A small update now ...

As I was told my terrain size textures (base) in project properties was 10x10 and this probably caused the initial problem mentioned (screenshot) in my first post ...

Now if in my map change this value (10x10) to lets say 40x40 (note that my map is 20480x20480) .... buldozer crashes again !! and in case I'll keep this 10x10 setting I'm getting again the same error as stated in my first post !!

I'll try to remake my project from the beggining just in case ... but for now ... very dissapointed :( :(

NOTE : this is not occuring when I'm using a failsafe sample terrain ... so I must assume that is an error of my terrain ...

EDIT : ok I did my map from the beggining with terrain textures size 40x40 ... now it seems ok and the buldozer is not crashing any more ... the only thing remains is to put some objects on my map ... I'll be back for this ...

---------- Post added at 02:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:11 PM ----------

Well after re-importing my map using the setting as stated above everything seems fine.

Thank you all for support and help provided.

Sorted! :)

Yeah - the latest tools came with a new updated buldozer.exe to handle the inclusion of OA & PMC roads, etc... and that buldozer.exe on P:\ is totally reliant on having properly version-matched BIN & DTA folders also on P:\... Arma2P takes care of that without any fussing about.

Also - in a whole toolbox of clever Mikero tools, Arma2P is one of the smartest... it knows about those precious Roads2 folder Mlods, it knows what needs to be on P:\ and assumes everything else it finds to be "yourstuff" and so carefully avoids touching those folders... You can run it again anytime (if there's been a new patch or something) - it'll remove all the necessary stuff and unpack all over again - preserving the roads and your own projects... It's just a great way of keeping your P:\ drive properly up-to-date...

The "Base Texture Size" thing is quite important - too small a value can cause odd behaviour and/or graphical glitches...

The permissible values are tied in to your Sat Layer size so not all sizes will be selectable... try to pick the size "two slots above" your heightmap groundcell size if Visitor will let you...

IE: for a 10m cell map there'll be 10x10m, 20x20m, 40x40m, 80x80m etc listed - try to use 40x40m if you can...

If it's a 12.5m groundcell map the options will be 12.5x12.5m, 25x25m, 50x50m, 100x100m - try to use 50x50m in that case...

... you get the idea.....

Also note that I'm working on your Limnos project using the initial xyz file ... (I hope there is no problem with that).

Of course not...! - it's only data... what you make of it is what matters and the credit for that will be all down to you!

Good luck!
