Angus S 10 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) When I first bought ArmA 2 not that long ago, after completing the boot camp missions I wanted something more in terms of training/practice, especially with CQB. I had a look at some of the missions out there that people have made and some of them are good but they weren't quite right so I made my own one that I thought may appeal to others like me in the community. My mission is a simple shoothouse mission without any AI opponents. It is still very much WIP, and is really still in beta, so please, any feedback, advice, and requests would be very much appreciated. The purpose of this mission is to hone your CQB skills, increase the speed that you can engage targets at close range, and familiarise yourself with the characters movement. It also helped me to find the perfect balance between mouse sensitivity, mouse smoothing, and aiming deadzone. The only required mod is the MGB Killhouse pack, but I would highly recommend the SMK animation pack which allows for much faster changes to your pistol, and much quicker vaulting over obstacles. It also allows you to move faster while keeping your aim on a target. The other addon I would highly recommend is the TrueUser_Fov_AutoZoom.pbo addon from the TrueMods pack. It changes the field of view to a much more desirable setting for close quarters, and removes the need for manual zooming while using optics. The mission requires ArmA 2: CO At its present state, the mission comprises of a single shoothouse that has targets that will pop up when the player enters the room or gets close. Targets are randomly spawned so no two missions will be the same. There is also randomly spawned cover that will partially conceal some targets and you will have to climb over. You are only given one magazine so I would recommend only using one or two rounds per target Next I will be working on the second section which will be outdoors and will involve engaging groups of targets in quick succession. Eventually I will implement a scoring system where you are given points based on time taken and targets hit, but I don't have the faintest idea how to do that yet. I will also release an ACE version that includes targets as 'hostages' Please report any errors you find. Enjoy! Angus S 10 Posted October 25, 2011 Well I'll be releasing the next version of this in a few days with a second section, the shooting yard. Any last minute requests/bugs?
76 0 Posted October 25, 2011 I haven't played it yet... or ArmA2 much for that matter but I like that people do make training mission, thank you for your work. Hope ya get some feedback... but then no news is good news :)
Angus S 10 Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks 76. You really should try ArmA2, it's an amazing game
76 0 Posted October 26, 2011 heh... I played OFP (the real one) for 3 years straight (played very few other games in that time) and all in SP (I had no internet connection in 2001-04), played Armed Assault religiously and played A2 pretty hard up till Red Orchestra 2 came out. Nowhere near enough focus from BI on PvP which is killing this series for me and its seriously heart breaking... and frustrating. Some of the ArmA community try to lift the PvP profile but... off topic, forgive me /end rant And yes the OFP/ArmA series is truly amazing :)
Angus S 10 Posted November 24, 2011 So I've been doing a little work on the next release on this mission (emphasis on little) but I think I'm going to wait until I have implemented a scoring system before I release it. I will (hopefully) make a scoring system that gives you points based on your time taken to complete the course and how many targets you hit (and lose points based on any hostages hit in the ACE version) I would really appreciate any advice on how to do this as I am very new to editing. Also any feedback on the first release would be much appreciated.
strac_sapper 1 Posted January 21, 2012 This is a great idea. I have trouble with the ArmA engine in close quarters and will give it a shot!
