walker 0 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Hi all In reply to DM: I admitted the hoax got me in an edit of the original post, even going so far as to embolden the text as well as noting it in the edit text but said "I must admit I thought the video was CGI when I first saw it" in my last post, this does not mean the same thing as I thought it was CGI all along, rather it states my first impression was that it was CGI, then I thought it was real. I did of course spot and confirm it was a hoax before you did, ...What you also fail to consider is how to even propel the damn things. In all the demonstrations either the track has been controlled (impractical for daily use outside of trains, even then its still quite sketchy) or the item has been pushed along by the demonstrator.If the track is just the electro magnets (whole world of pain there too, what are the safety concerns, where does the power come from...) and the vehicle contains the levitation element, where (and what power source) does the propulsion element sit (and use)? Its nice on a science-demo level [at the moment], but still not really practical on a day-to-day basis... eg I posted it as a hoax at 08:44 PM GMT where as you as of 09:19 PM GMT did not know it was a hoax until after seeing my post explaining it to you. The hoax also caught several technology news outlets too. On the matter of the substantive issue of the practicalities, I did post a link to a paper dealing with your questions on the practicalities. I presume you missed it or could not be bothered to read it. If we start from that point then perhaps we can move the thread subject forward. b101_uk 10 Posted January 4, 2012 The only time the wheel will ever be replaced is if someone can come up with a mechanically simple, cheap device that consumes very little over its lifetime and err replicates ALL the qualities of “THE WHEEL†with its thousands of years refinement or its basic use by even the most inept/incompetent of individuals.
