Yea, good idea.

Trying to use the lean function (as a pilot) to lean out of the door is impossible due to a invisible wall/door. Wonder why, it sure would have been nice. :)

Quick question for the devs: I presume, that this function (i.e lean left) would work from both pilot and passenger/operator positions if the invisible boundaries were removed...or?

can the doors be removed before flight so we could lean out to look down?

Still can't lean out further on the no door versions of helis.

In the OA preview version we could lean out a lot further, although at the time it was through the door models and I would just open them first so it didn't look so bad.

Armored_Sheep commented as follows on the ability to lean further in the community preview:
Game supports 6DOF including zoom. Range of movement is limited to respect that pilot has a seatbelt. Some players like to zoom with head movement, other prefer to offset head without zooming. Feel free to configure your personal assigments of TrackIR axes movement to game controls Options->Controls.

But really it was just to cover up the fact that it is the collision model that has been altered to stop clothing passing through the door windows. ;)

The alternative would be multiple collision models for when doors are open or a separate door colision model. Probably too late in the game for the latter.

In reality, they are a lot smaller than you would imagine. The MD500 series are pretty cramped machines. With the door closed, your shoulder is only about 2 inches or so from touching the window. With the door removed, and your seat belt on, it wouldn't be far fetched at all to be able to lean over enough so that your sight line was past the floor. The 412 might be a little more roomy.
