How to gwt a soldier's rank to show in his icon?

In the editor, place a group on the map and then preview.

Note that the soldiers rank shows up in the soldier icons.

Now place an individual soldier on the map and make him a sergeant.

On the soldier’s icon, his rank does not show.

How can I get his rank to show up?

The icons are defined in the unit's config, I don't think it is possible to dynamically assign icons depending on rank.
