Blitzen 10 Posted September 20, 2011 I am trying to start an island project that I hope will be different from most OFP islands. I have two questions about island creation: 1) I believe that an island should be on an "object budget." If there are too many objects then the player will experience lag. However if there are only a small amount of items/objects then the island will lack imersion/realism. How can you create a realistic island with out creating lag? I rember reading on the forums that limiting the amount of enterable buildings will decrease lag. Are there any more hints/tips to reduce lag? 2) My Island is going to take on a Syrian/Turkish feel. Are there any addons that have good middle eastern buildings but do not require a lot of additional content? I really like the DMA Libya buildings but they require alot of additional addons :( Something like this is what Im going for:
guziczek101 11 Posted September 21, 2011 Good middle eastern buildings are in: 1. Fallujah http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10724 2. IM:UC http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=10547 but they maybe cause lag in game (and i don't know what is they license status) sorry for my english ;) [/url]
icebreakr 3159 Posted September 21, 2011 Nice green area, reminds me of a terrain I'm making right now - in South America ;) What country is this sat from?
Robster 11 Posted September 21, 2011 I have made maps for A2OA only... but we have used more than a million and a half objects with no lag... as per say, you may use one, two or three objects repeatedly and it will work better than 25 unique objects... In Clafghan we have a forest base with 9 different objects and still no problem, but we have been very cautious and we haven't use any A2 building cause they are troublesome... I reallylike the fallujah buildings but I think most of them are enterable and will probably cause lag. :( I also dont know if Im allowed to use them without permission. Do most island building addons require permission? Nice green area, reminds me of a terrain I'm making right now - in South America ;) What country is this sat from? I grabbed that image off of another game's website so Im not sure.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted September 21, 2011 Do most island building addons require permission? No, most of them are intended to be used by other island creators. You may just credit the authors, even if they are part of another mod i'd say.

krzychuzokecia 719 Posted September 21, 2011 One thing, though: both IM:UC and BoF objects pack are very troublesome. Their buildings miss lower res-lods and (IM:UC) memory lods, which makes them lag heavy and miss ladder climbing/door opening. Still, IM:UC objects look so nice and detailed... Your decision, hope this project will be successful! :)

Im currently looking at BAS's tonal objects, etc.
