Auto kill messages

I was playing some OFP last night multiplayer in a Cap and Hold Mission and it occured to me how much different the game would be if there were not any kill messages...what I mean to say is...when you shoot someone you get the 'bill was killed by tom' type message at the bottom of the screen. Is there any way to turn this off on a server? I never really payed much attention to it before, but in retrospect, it does kind of allow you to keep track of where people...I imagine that the tension might be a little greater if you werent exactly sure if that grenade you threw behind the building actually took out the bad guy or not.

I've never thought about that before. I agree that it would add to the game if you just didn't know for sure whether your sniper shot got the enemy behind that bush, or if your grenade killed the guy waiting around the corner for you.

All too often people will see someone get down behind a bush or a tree, and they will empty a clip in that vicinity until they see the kill message. I've done it too, and I think it would definitely improve gameplay if you couldn't rely on a kill message. A problem I can think of right off the bat is some griefer sneaking around killing his own team, and they would think it was the enemy. It wouldn't be hard to just show a kill message if it was a team kill though I bet.

No message: xxx was killed by yyy would only lead to

use the "i" key to check it out at the score. wink.gif

If you see the score +1, you'd also know you've killed

him.

Disable the stats and have it show only when the game is over:)

I think it would be great if you could turn on/off kill messages and stats like it was an option in cadet/veteran mode.

Agreed. Stats should only show up at the end and there should be an option to disable kill messages.

I guess you could still have a running admin prog in the background which checks TK'ers. If he reaches a certain TK limit he gets booted and everyone else knows. Apart from that, you could keep everything else secret until the end. What would be even better would be a stats summary screen, of who you killed and how.
