We all experience 'lag' or rather, the warping or teleporting (they don't walk fluently, but sometimes 'jump' every meter by a bit) of players I have experienced on most of the servers.

If you head over to the beta thread you can see that BIS are working to resolve this issue. The current beta is experimental and does contain some of the work that is heading towards a fix.

Have a read of the developers blog it gives a great insight as to what they are trying to achieve.

Interpolation in it's current state has 0 effect on multiplayer.

I know. My point was that they are working on it and getting it working and Multiplayer is their end-game.

No doubt a lot of this work has Arma 3 in mind but at least Arma 2 will also see the benefit.

Right, but I was simply stating the current status of Interpolation. The guy asked "Is there anything to fix the MP warping", you said "try the latest betas", I said "It won't affect anything as it's not implemented in MP"

Lol - looking back my response seemed harsh - it certainly wasn't intended to be - I blame posting with two 4 year olds screaming around you! Anyway apologies.

Basically my intention was to say 'they are working on it'!

Well they can't just "get rid of it". Every game has lag no matter what people think. It's just how well they disguise it to the untrained eye (Bad Company 2 is good for trying to trick people into believing there's no lag...).

They can certainly attempt to reduce it though.

But its not lag so to speak not network lag any way its more of an engine lag aint it?.

It happens even on LAN with zero ping well ok 1-2 pig and still the warping persists.

I have been praying for a fix to this for years as being a sniper tbh is a pain in the ass.

Any ways I have trust and know they will improve/fix it.

just a few more questions as ive only recenty jumped from console to pc gaming, is pc lag is far worse than console lag? is there any pc game that dont suffer from lag? i used to play cod games for example on ps3 and never seen any lag apart from the odd server connection fail, is the lag bad on the pc version? or is it because arma is such a demanding game,

cheers

p.s arma and homefront are the only games i have for online at the mo both being laggy thats y i dont have any other comparisons to console games ive played in the past

Some of this is the game and some of this is due to the platform and a lot of it is just perception. I have seen plenty of lag on Xbox live and an awful lot more on PSN (I own both consoles - I am not a 'fanboy' of either!).

Lag is inevitable however on any platform due to the vast latency differences that can occur between all the different connected clients. Properly synchronizing someone with a sub 50 ping at the same time as someone with a >200 ping (for example) will be almost impossible on any platform.

After playing 2 games it's not really an indicative sample to be honest - play some more PC games!

Homefront ran quite fine for me (and the netlag was fairly minimal as the Unreal 3 engine is usually pretty good for that).

If you had issues on Homefront, either you were on a shitty server or your internet connection was an issue.

Console games are way worse for latency btw as they are usually P2P hosted rather than a dedicated server.

Like I said earlier as well, some games are good at hiding lag, such as BC2 and COD. COD is especially bad, watch a replay in slow motion and you'll see the delay between shots registering or people getting killed when the knife didn't even go near them. Stuff like that.

14m is a good download speed indeed. But, it's not the whole story, you can have a fast download speed and poor latency which is what affects online gaming. Some internet service providers are better than others for this.

You need to make sure that ports 2302 and 2303 are open in both your firewall and your router which will allow the packets through unimpeaded.

If you are suffering from a bad experience in online games then check with you internet service provider if you are on an 'Interleaved' service. This is usually set by default and ensures line stability at the cost of increased latency. They may be able to switch you to a 'non-interleaved' service. However (!) - sometimes the interleaved setting is needed if the noise on your line is high and you may not be able to give you a non interleaved connection. In any case it is good to speak to your internet provider about these things.

It could also be silly things like not using a DSL filer on all the equipment connected to your line (unless of course you are a cable user). Even with a DSL filer, some equipment causes internal noise which can affect latency.

Let's start from the basics...

What Operating system do you have? Do you have any third party firewalls such as McAfee, Norton or AVG?

If you are using a thrid party firewall, you will need to check with their help as to how to open a specific port. I suspect though that this isn't your problem as you are connecting to online games. I suspect that IF there is a problem it is more likely to be your internet connection, either with your service provider or some kind of noise on the line. You may not even have a problem - it may just be normal lag that is experienced by everyone from time to time! When you join a game, try and join one with the lowest ping (less than 200 is usually OK) and see if that makes a difference. In case you were not aware, the PING is the number of milliseconds it takes for a packet of data to get to the server and back to your machine (in simple terms!) - so the lower this is the better.

When I was talking about cable, I was referring to the type of internet you have. Mostly it is either ADSL which comes in via your telephone line, or it is Cable supplied by a cable company (such as Virgin here in the UK). Given the speed you have, it could be either. If you are on a telephone line (ADSL) then the noise on the line can be severley affected by other devices plugged into the telephone sockets or exetensions in your home - you need to plug each device into an ADSL filter. The extensions themselves can also cause noise, so here in the UK british telecom sockets are fitted with a test socket in the master outlet so you can check if an internal device is casuing a problem.

im on windows 7,

use trend micro av

i alway go for ping no higher than 31 and on arma it says my ping is avarage 27ms, i run from the phone socket using a micro filter to for phone and router , have tried wireless but have same problems(no sure if that makes any difference),

i quess it could be normal i know from earliar posts arma is a laggy game but seems to be bad on all the games ive played something i never had on console online gaming(i do appreciate they are very diffrent systems) which makes me belive its not the internet but rather a setting or like you said quite normal for pc online gaming, as for arma and if its normal in my experiance all players jump every footstep about a metre, and the ai is a bit better but can also be as bad.

cheers

It's some little script kiddie named Novatech who got banned on a server and he's going around with a script and just darking out your screen with that message, then shutting down the server (or attempting to at least).

He's like 13 years old and couldn't get his way so he thinks he's being tough behind his computer screen.
