Trillian 10 Posted July 4, 2011 So I upgraded to Arrowhead through the Steam sale the other day, and it's a very impressive upgrade, but something is really bothering me. Previous in Arma 2, I would play warfare mode and go after capture points to fight guerrilla forces, and my coop buddy and I would steal and repair their vehicles if we could and add them to our collection. That doesn't work for some reason in Combined Operations, and I've made a test map to try out a ton of different vehicles. When I disable a car and run up to it, the driver is dead inside, but I can't take it. Any ideas? Is this a warfare mode feature I can disable, or what? This is reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaally annoying me. I've spent hours trying to fix it.
kylania 568 Posted July 4, 2011 Are the vehicles maybe locked by default? Never play Warfare myself, but that is an option for mission makers to do.
Trillian 10 Posted July 4, 2011 See, I don't know. I created a custom editor mission, placed a soldier to play, and then placed and synchronized the Warfare module. There are two modules now though, Warfare and Warfare OA, spawning Russian and Desert landscape styled equipment for the sides. I tried swapping the OA for the default Warfare though, thinking that it would return it to how it worked in Arma II, but nothing. I haven't locked any vehicles - the Guerrilla vehicles are spawned as you approach to defend the towns. I'll run some more tests, but the mission is as basic as it can get. I did use mods at first, but then I thought a mod might have been doing it so I slowly got rid of them, until there were none left. Then I thought it could have been the mission itself, so I made a new mission that didn't use World in Conflict mission tools, and still nothing. I've run several times on the base game with absolutely nothing going on in the background modwise, and it very much appears the enemy vehicles are locked. Which is a term I learned today but it doesn't help me much. ---------- Post added at 10:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 PM ---------- I'm now convinced this was a change made to prevent imbalances in Warfare mode by allowing one side to steal the vehicles of another without purchasing them, because I placed several vehicles from different sides and took out the drivers and they fell out of the cars, allowing me to get in just fine. When I took out a nearby guerrilla car, the driver *didn't* fall out and I couldn't get in. Kind of crappy when your car gets blown up and you'd like a ride in a stolen armored car. Can the game be edited to remove this feature? I've looked everywhere and I can't even find a reference.
EDcase 87 Posted July 6, 2011 It is an editable option though I don't know how to set it myself. Search and download "Warfare Benny edition". That has parameters you can set at the start.
Hanzu 10 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Previous in Arma 2, I would play warfare mode and go after capture points to fight guerrilla forces, and my coop buddy and I would steal and repair their vehicles if we could and add them to our collection. I've spent hours trying to fix it. Are you using mods? If yes, I have read so many posts about it causing weird things in warfare. Also you said you played cooperatively. Some vehicles that can be captured or taken over in coop cannot be captured in single player. For example in Combined Operations I always managed to take over AAV7A1 by going behind it, scrolling mouse wheel for action menu, choosing Ride in back and after that I could switch to any position, driver, gunner or commander too. Another player tried the same in single player and never managed to do it. So my conclusion is, there is something different in coop and SP when it comes to that. Even in coop this method only works for some vehiles like BRDM-2, BMP-2, AAV7A1. But not for M1A2 Tusk or Shilka. Maybe because they have no back doors and they are only entered from top hatches.) Sorry if I confused two different things, but capturing abandoned enemy vehicles should always work in both coop and SP if the vehicle is not locked as stationary. Taking over frindly vehicles is another thing that works different in coop and SP. Edited July 7, 2011 by Hanzu
David Schofield 10 Posted July 7, 2011 It does sound pretty bad if it's a game play setting at all... One of the major aspects of my own play is to buy a few soldiers (best of the best, SIR!) and wait for a decent enemy vehicle to come along, set up beside the road, and cap the driver, gunner, and anyone else. Sure, it wouldn't work for tanks, but that's what hiding out of the road is supposed to do. But since this is somehow enabled, it kinda defeats my purpose for playing warfare... It's probably editor changeable or something; try accessing scripts with Notepad and searching out terms like "LOCK".
dmarkwick 261 Posted July 7, 2011 Not exactly helpful for this particular situation, but I wonder if it might be more appropriate to set the side of the vehicle based on the vehicle type rather than the driver? That way you could steal stuff, but be in danger of being targeted by your own side? :)
Trillian 10 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm not using mods. It's just that when you shoot the driver, they don't fall out of the car so it's still, technically, manned by the enemy side. I don't know how to fix that, but I'll look into Warfare Benny's Edition.
