CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 8, 2011 Even if disposable, I tend to disagree on opening up launcher use with heavy weapons (M249/M240/M107). There is one M249 per normal fireteam, and three others to carry either AT4 or backpacks. Currently the game already allows carrying 1200 rounds of M249 for the gunner, with an additional 1600 rounds for his assistant/buddy. Access it granted by the mission designer. But the game itself has to set limits to show what is acceptable or not. If game had no limitations, that would become a de facto standard, and nobody would like missions where the mission designer sets additional limits. How many play Domination with limited weapons enabled? The game sets reasonable limits, and then you can script to overcome it. Want to carry three AT4s? In the current form, just add the ammo via script. Custom gear dialogs might even be possible to interact with it the normal way. But there probably are reasons why most doesn't bother. On the other hand, if it was possible by default, it would become the standard, and people would complain if mission maker tried to make it a realistic and common loadout scheme. Just look at public Domination. With "no ingame limits" as you suggests, there would be 30 guys running around with two AT4s, a backpack with additional M107/M249 ammo, one scoped/M249 TWS and one scoped/M107 TWS (in the Domination backpack). Exaggerated of course. But what kind of platoon have this? Keep in mind, this game mode is for many an introduction to the game. From now on, they expect it to be the norm, and won't even touch more realism oriented ones. Personally I think it's already too free, but luckily there are already some restrictions in place by the game itself. Remove these, and we have an even worse public gaming experience. Now that we've got a pretty decent backpack system, I would like to see the inventory system upgraded to depict more specialized slot system for the avatar. Like pouches made for certain ammo types that you can't put anywhere else. The only thing really special would be rocket and missile based backpacks. 200 round SAW boxes, 100 round MG boxes, 50 round HMG boxes, 25 (?) round GL boxes, LAW, and mortar rounds - all fit into backpacks, but not "on body". Exception could be weapon on back and rounds in hand with command to drop what you have in hand to ready the gun. Why does so many think you're self sustained? You're really not, it's a team effort. In our real life setup, we had two or three guys on the MG (depending on weather or not we had the tripod), with the secondary guy feeding the MG and carrying the spare barrel. But the whole team got to carry one box worth of ammo each, helping reducing the load of the MG guys. Becoming self sustained is possible, but require more work on the player. But players are lazy and expect to be self sustained without having to deal with the extra work. Want to be an AT team? Then utilize the storage space of a vehicle, and/or work better as a team.
