Black Screen "Receiving" Flashing

Recommended Posts

After a while of playing Operation Arrowhead I get a black screen that just says "Receiving" and it keeps flashing at me. I can still hear the game running in the background but it won't let me do anything and I am forced to End OA's process in task manager.

It happens quicker if I put up my video settings and also If I change my "video memory" from very high to "default" (get the screen within a minute). At the moment I am running the game on full but with HDR and AA on normal with "very high" video memory. This allows me to play for an hour before I get the "receiving" screen. This is very frustrating and completely ruins the game having to restart it and reconnect to a server every hour.

I am guessing this has something to do with it running out of video memory but I am not sure. Any help would be most appreciated.

My Setup

i7 920

Corsair 6GB DDR3

ATI 5970 2GB

TX850W Corsair PSU

My suspicions are to do with the 5970 being a dual gpu card. The localvram setting in Arma2OA.cfg shows 2GB but I get the feeling that it is not using it all. When I have tried disabling one of my GPUs to see if crossfire was the problem I still run into the exact same issue and now I am out of ideas. The only thing I can think of is that I have my page file disabled as I have 6GB ram and the game is trying to access it? Help!

The Receiving-Screen is indeed extremely annoying the way it currently works.

When I start or join a MP map, I have that screen for about 15 seconds sometimes while my char is already in the world and the world around me is running while I sit at that stupid screen not being able to act.

Can't the game start after the stuff that is executed behind that screen is finished? Often enough in MP I am killed while this screen denies me access to the world that is already running.

i also had that problem with my old 8800 GT, i had it very often, and i found no way to fix it(had to close arma and fire it up again) - my guess it is related to RAM,graca cache,pagefile-settings, localvram- nonlocalvram- settings - in the arma.cfg

i never had the problem with my new 5770

*edit

if u have the pagefile deactivated try setting nonlocalvram to 0 in your arma2oa.cfg(if it isnt already). if not:

set nonlocalvram=0 .start arma. close it. check if the settings is still 0.

if its not:

set nonlocalvram=0. make ur arma2oa.cfg write protected. start arma anc check again

just an idea :)

Just an update for anyone who ever encounters this problem. I found a fix, it was in fact the page file being disabled that was screwing it up, set it to 2gb and I'm not getting any problems at all now.
