Covak 0 Posted May 16, 2002 I've got a Live! 5.1, and with the latest OpFlash and latest Live! 5.1 drivers (for XP) I still have that problem where I can hear foot steps from a mile away as if they're right next to my head. Â I've tried the latest unofficial Live! 5.1 drivers too, with no luck. Why the heck wasn't this ever fixed? Â Or is it up to Creative to release new drivers already? Mister Frag 0 Posted May 16, 2002 It's a problem with the sound drivers, and Creative Labs is notoriously slow when it comes to releasing new drivers and fixing bugs. They don't even publicly test new releases, so you can't even assume the risk of using a beta driver yourself in the hopes that it will be better than what has been released. I'm so fed up with their buggy products and poor attitude, I will never buy another Creative Labs product.
Insthink 0 Posted May 17, 2002 i dont get why when it comes to EAX problem with OFP, we blame Creative Labs. I have many other games and every single one of them support EAX and surround sound and every single one of them WORKS! No crackles&pops, no screwed up distance sounds. Now OFP is the only one doing this to my system... so why is it Creative Labs whose drivers work for the other games should be blamed to not work on OFP's already bad sound engine, SB live! or not? Mister Frag 0 Posted May 17, 2002 With any 3D sound API, the program tells the sound card (through the API and driver) where individual sound sources are, what sounds should be played, what the volume is, what the environmental effects are etc. The API and driver are then responsible for producing the correct experience for the user. If the API and/or driver interpret some of the information wrong, i.e. they don't handle the distance from the sound source to the user correctly, it isn't the fault of the game. hbk 0 Posted May 18, 2002 Well, OFP is the only game having such problems. Of course, OFP is one of the few games where sound is no "BLAMBANGSHOTARGHBANGSHOTBANG..." So what's the problem ? I admit the hardware / driver combo is guilty. Anyway, if there is no driver in sight (maybe it's a pure hardware limitation) it's the game developer's job to provide a fix. It's easy to blame Creative (although they sometimes deserves it) but they won't fix a driver problem for a single game. OFP wants to use EAX, then it's gonna use it "the way it is", and not "the way it should be" (not to say "the way OFP wants it to be") This issue really bugs me, as it forces you to disable HW Accel in order to fix it (using SBAudigy w/ latest drivers) So please BiS, fix it. Mister Frag 0 Posted May 18, 2002 Not all platforms supporting EAX are having problems with OFP. That includes non-Creative Labs cards, as well as Creative Labs cards on different operating systems. For example, I have a Sound Blaster Live! with V3509.2.0.0 of the Creative Labs WDM driver under Windows XP Professional, and EAX works fine. Other people have reported problems when switching from Windows 98/ME to Windows XP with the Creative Labs drivers. Same game, different drivers, and suddenly the footsteps bug appears. Go ahead and draw your own conclusion.
