oktyabr 12 Posted March 2, 2011 I know the answer should be staring me in the face but I keep running into problems with missing textures in buldozer! My P: directory is setup according to tutorial with: P:/CA/roads2, plants2, etc. And then my personal work directory is P:/<namespace>/<mapname>/<stuff> so it looks like this for real: P:/OKTY/del_fuego/source, etc. The one I'm tripping over is african foliage. If it's dePBO'd into "brg_africa" should this be in P:/brg_africa/, P:/ca/brg_africa, P:/OKTY/ca/brg_africa, P:/OKTY/del_fuego/Data/brg_africa or somewhere else??? I assume it will be the same path for most non-BIS addons but I'm really struggling here. I can add the tree type to my Nature Objects in V3 and place them on the map but I always end up with something like "Cannot locate texture /brg_africa/data/something_something_co.paa" or similar when buldozer gets fired up. I'm not really that new. I got one map working with strictly BIS trees and the like (from P:/CA/... ) and on my own, "del_fuego", I've got custom terrain textures, BIS objects and even have Worldtools planting a forest of bis trees for me as well as Homer's Road Painter which just completed a scenic two lane black top all the way around the island, all of which shows up fine in V3, buldozer, and Arma2 (@Del_Fuego). What am I missing? Thanks in advance!
bushlurker 46 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) P:/brg_africa ... should be fine... However... look inside the brg_africa folder... if theres a file called $PBOPREFIX$ - open it in notepad... it'll contain a path... If it says... "bergs_trees\brg_africa" (I just made that up, though) then you'd use the path... "P:\bergs_trees\brg_africa"... 9 times out of 10 unpacking to the P:\ drive will be fine... but Mikebarts stuff, for example, carries a $PBOPREFIX$ file that says..... "mikebart\mb_rocks"... So you'd unpack this addon to... "P:\mikebart\mb_rocks" Maybe didn't explain that very well, but you get the idea... look for a $PBOPREFIX$ file and if there is one, make the path P:\whatever the $pboprefix$ says... Otherwise go with unpacked direct to a folder on P:\ B Edited March 2, 2011 by Bushlurker

The included readme says to just put it in P:/brg_africa but I think I tried that already with no luck. I'm giving it another go with it there right now. Also I have learned to be wary about such things since it seems that some oldschool mappers don't even use a <namespace> directory? EDIT -- Yup, straight into P:/ worked this time. I think it helped that I cleaned up a wayward install of it to P:/CA too. Edited March 2, 2011 by Oktyabr
bushlurker 46 Posted March 2, 2011 it seems that some oldschool mappers don't even use a <namespace> directory?__________________ I guess it's all down to Sgt Ace's tutorial really... I'm a relatively new guy myself - last terrain I made was for OFP and back then things were quite different in many ways... more recently, like I tell other people to do all the time - I just worked my way thru Sgt Ace's tutorial - assumed it to be The Way Things Must Be and took it from there... kinda late to change arrangements now... However - theres plenty of other terrain makers who happily disregard the whole namespace and "namespace Ca folder" thing and have their project folders directly on the P:\ drive... that seems to work fine as well... so I guess it's just a question of how you learned to do stuff in the first place... smokedog3para 365 Posted March 2, 2011 gnat has a way of doing it Anyhow, solved the problem myself after much experiementing - DONT put anything in your PROJECT PREFERANCES -> Folder Objects box in visitor - Have all the BIS buildings etc in P:\CA\everything - Have your Island project folder in root of P, like P:\GNT_Sands - When you load objects into the Visitor template you should notice it gives it a "ca\buildings\....." or "ca\structures\...." etc file location. - You can now place your own addons under your island directory, like "P:\GNT_Sands\runway\runway_main_40_X.p3d" Ladders, doors all still work. Haven't spoted a downside yet.
oktyabr 12 Posted March 2, 2011 That was one of the biggest hurdles for me in taking the first steps in learning how to map... The tutorials that are available are a HUGE help and I want to thank the authors (and others that pointed us newbies in the right direction) for sharing them, BUT... some of the information is outdated or incomplete (where to put other pbos, how to use the road tools, etc.) and other parts conflict with information in similar tutorials (to namespace or not!) That said the biggest benefit to me in learning has been this forum, it's search function and helpful posts from guys like you. Thanks!
