dkosmack 10 Posted March 1, 2011 I was playing Dogs of War and did a little bit of swimming to and from the boats I used to get to the island with to capture Lopotev. Problem is, as we all know, some of my men lost their weapons from the short swims they had to do, primarily 2 of my fellow Marine squad members. How do I put weapons back into the hands of my men? This is so frustrating. Someone please shed some light.
maturin 12 Posted March 1, 2011 Kill someone and take their weapons. There are boats on the map, you know...
Hanzu 10 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Here is some more light. My boat was AAVP7A1, kind of useful when clearing the island too. Edited March 3, 2011 by Hanzu
OMAC 254 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Boats? What boats? The first time I played, I searched in vain for boats to get me to Lopotev's island. I learn something every day about DoW. Once I had #4 run out of ammo. Also, men can lose their equipment by swimming. How can a squadmate get more ammo or get new weapons? I (Cooper) can always pick one up off a dead soldier, or buy new equipment. But my squadmates? There is the "send money" option, which I have never used. Is that it? Never figured that out. You can select the squad member and then hit 6 (action) and then hit gear. He will go to the nearest gearable object (body, vehicle, ammo crate) and you can select what he gets. Telling him to move to a body increases the chances of him taking it from that body but it seems it can be a flawed method sometimes.
OMAC 254 Posted March 2, 2011 Thank you, Jakerod. I played through the entire Arma 2 campaign without knowing that. Thankfully my guys never ran out of ammo very often. There's always something more to learn about Arma 2 controls, it seems.
dkosmack 10 Posted March 3, 2011 Ok ill try some of those things, thanks to all for replying to my question, this game gets pretty frustrating at times.
Hanzu 10 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) Yes game gets pretty frustrating to us sometimes too and that is why we help others here. Here is some more tips, to possibly avoid further frustration: If you lose your weapons by swimming, then be careful what weapon you pick for yourself later on. After you go to the Island mission will turn to night mission and some weapons that have scope are only showing black when you try to zoom with them. I'm not sure if that is a bug or just part of realism that nightvision goggles are not compatible with some weapon optics. I go to one of those AAVP7A1 USMC, choose Ride In The Back and switch to commander or driver and then command all Razor Team in too, but ofcourse if you have not gathered enough evidence in previous missions then USMC will not show up and so you have no opportunity to use AAVP7A1. In that case you can try some other APCs that you can find in the mission like BRDM-2 that can swim at least in real life, never tried that in this game though. OMAC 254 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) Again, commanding USMC vehicles in DoW (or Village Sweep) is impossible in single player. You can get in back, but CANNOT switch to commander or other seats. I assume this is a feature, not a bug. Vehicles of any AI "unit" commandable with High Command controls can NOT be driven or commanded, except for "getting in back". This is a MAJOR decision by BI, and even affects OA. If your vehicle gets damaged, you have to either walk or get in back and sit like an idiot (the latter is obviously not fun at all, and sucks so bad it is not really an option). This was a big problem for me in Sandstorm. This was my experience in SP. If anyone thinks different, please let me know. Hanzu 10 Posted March 3, 2011 I was talking about wrong APC name. The correct name is AAVP7A1 [uSMC](Amphibious Assault Vehicle), but surely you knew what APC I meant and since I believe you it does not work in SP, but also know for sure it works for me in MP, it makes me think if it really is a bug Can you move next seat to UAZ driver and switch to driver position yourself in SP, if yes, why not here too. Also atleast some of AAVP7A1 have door between front and rear compartments like this, which supports my theory of it beeing realistic to move from back to front without going outside in the process. But anyway in Dog Of War BRDM-2 is very common, so I would try swimming with that.
OMAC 254 Posted March 3, 2011 In my opinion also, it is a bug, and an incredibly major one that has SEVERE gameplay implications for A2 and OA in SP. Are there other threads on this issue? I would love to hear BI's opinion on this. With purchased vehicles, you can order the crew to disembark and take their places, but not with AI units (ALL USMC vehicles in DoW). I figured you were talking about the amphibious APC, the one with the grenade launcher and MG, not the LAV-25 with the 20mm cannon. However, vehicle type is irrelevant here. If it is part of an AI unit, one can only get in back in SP. But for this thread, you are of course correct that any CDF apc can be used to travel to the island, although I have never tried that (I used USMC and CDF choppers).
